Brett Mclaughlin was recommended by a friend. Friendly guy, but a little creepy sounding on the phone, was a little inappropriate, but otherwise gave me a good estimate for a project in our home. Gave him $7000 deposit and he started the job. Next day, no-show. Same the day after. Finally he showed up to continue, started getting FLIRTY and TOUCHY with my daughter! I was horrified, called my husband, but by the time he came home, Brett left without any progress on the job.

Eventually he texted me that he changed his mind and can’t finish the work!!! I asked about the deposit but he stopped responding. I called my friend who recommended him and he said that he ended up having the same experience!!! Felt Terrible that he recommended him. We should have done a background check beforehand. Brett has done this multiple times and then eventually moves to another area, and changes his company name and phone #. He is a SCUMMY CON ARTIST and don’t let him near your home!!

Had the exact same experience with Brett McLaughlin, Distinctive and Historic Painting Professionals, in Boston. Signed on to do the job and disappeared. I believe he is an addict and is very charming and sells jobs and almost immediately uses the funds to purchase drugs. He subsequently engages in threatening conduct when you try to hold him accountable. His wife Tara McLaughlin is complicit in his schemes. He is a troubled man who needs a psychiatrist and/or jail time to straighten him out. Look around the internet and you’ll find lots of evidence of his "start the job” and run behavior.

I had a very similar experience!!! Brett took my deposit and then told me he will "pass” on completing the job. He had barely started. He was super creepy and flirty as well. Is there a way to get in touch with you? Our lawyers are involved already but it would be good to connect and plan next steps.
