I am a former employee of this company, my Hire in was 10/02 and I was terminated 01/04. During this time there were several new employees hired. An "assistant managers" position was needed and created and after the employees with more senority declined the position, I was looked over for someone newer. I was finally asked about the position and after being "trained" for a week was "given up on" because I "couldn't handle the pressure of managment."

All I was trained to do was the lousy DR (Daily Report). I was never fully trained on how to do it, nor was I ever allowed to even finish one. I was passed up again for an employee with less senority.

I asked for a specific day off to have surgery on my ears. The Friday before my surgery (which was the next Monday) I checked the schedule and found I was scheduled to work. I brought this to the manager (Carolyn Nappier) and asked that she fix the scheduling so that I could have off my 3-month-in-advance requested day. She told me it was MY problem and that I had to find someone to switch with me if I wanted off. I responded that it was not MY duty to fix HER mistakes and that since I had asked for this day off 3 months in advance AND that it was medical that I would simply not show up and she could deal with it how she saw fit.

That Sunday was Superbowl Sunday. I worked the evening shift that day and recieved a call on my cell phone (family emergency or else I wouldn't have taken the call) and a gentleman around the age of 35 came in to the store and brought a case of beer to the counter. I completed the transaction as normal and finished up my phone call. Later on when I was filling out my shift report I saw the transaction where I had sold the beer and freaked out. (Sunday sales are illegal here.) I highlighted it on my journal tape and left a note for Carolyn explaining EXACTLY what happened.

The next day I had my surgery and afterwards went home to rest. Tuesday I return to the store for my shift and was terminated for the Sunday beer sale.

I later found out that 2 of the newer employees sold beer to minors and were fined by the Florence Police Department AND the Alabama ABC board. Prior to employment I had to sign a form that stated company policy. The company's policy is that any cashier that recieves a fine for sales to minors would be terminated on the spot. These 2 employees not only were NOT fired, but allowed to continue their shift.

Parents forbid your kids from going in that store if you think they will be tempted to buy tobacco / alcohol because NO ONE THERE CHECKS ID'S. The only person I've seen ID anyone is the new manager Elise. I've warned her many times about how the company will screw you over.

I do realize that in the state of Alabama you don't have to have a reason to fire anyone. My reasoning for posting this is to ward off anyone who might potentially apply for employment there. IT'S NOT WORTH IT.
