I own a 1997 Dodge Stratus. Head gasket went out on it. Found out from mechanic that this is a common problem in Dodge Stratus/Dodge Neon and Dodge is aware of the problem and has since redesigned the gasket. Dodge is unwilling, however, to issue a recall on the defective gasket and will not help out with repair costs. I have found so many complaints on the internet from other Dodge owners that have had the same problem with their cars, 1995-1998 with as little as 20,000 miles to as many as 70,000.

I will never purchase a Dodge again because of the poor treatment I have gotten from the manufacturer. What is even more interesting is that we own two Dodge Stratus, one 1997 and 1998 and both started leaking oil around the same mileage. The 1997 has been repaired (bill = $1065.00). It will be interested to find out if it is the head gasket in the 1998 - I bet it is.
