We hired Julian W. Alexander to do a extensive remodel project on one of our homes.  We made the huge mistake of giving him money up front.  He took the money and walked off the job after only doing some of the demolition and a little of the electrical.  We gave him $14,000 and he earned only about $1,000.  The job was to be a complete remodel including the demolition, new kitchen, new appliances,  new flooring throughout, new paint, new windows, new sod, etc. etc.  We are now trying to get a judgment against him in the Court (case number 12-0906057), pending in the Third District Court, Salt Lake City.  We requested complaints from the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing and they sent me over a dozen complaints all showing that  Julian uses the same mode of operation: he underbids everyone and gets money up front. Then he starts on the job and walks off after doing a little work.  Do not use this guy!

Correction, Clarification, and Retraction

I wish to correct and clarify statements I made in an earlier report dated January 25, 2013, report number 1003388.

Our remodel did not include kitchen appliances.  The contractor was not responsible for the purchase of those.

My opinion and estimate of the amount of work he did complete was based on our expert's opinion, and then we reduced that based on all the work that had to be redone by the contractor we hired to complete the project.  Again, this is my best estimate and my opinion only.

The information we received from DOPL showed several customer complaints and some investigations by the government agency (DOPL).  One of the records was a "Notice of Agency Action..."  The records also showed a number of judgments which may or may not have stemmed from his work as a contractor.   The record says the judgments are outstanding.

Any statements I made in my previous report (Report No. 1003388) regarding anything to do with DOPL reports and his mode of operation are hereby retracted and have been corrected above.
