So, I read the below report and realized that this EXACT thing happened to me only 2 years later (almost to the date)!!! I filed with the BBB and realized that they had 5 complaints in the last year!!! I spent $3500 in 4 months on a total rip off. They kept charging ME to fix their defective extentions that fell out. Now I have to go to litigation since they seem to know how to go around the BBB by stating that this is a "money matter" (which BBB doesn't deal with). DO NOT EVER, EVER, EVER go here!!!!!

On October 13 2003 I went for a consultation to add hair extensions to help improve my self esteem and image. I was asked for a deposit of $50.00 at time before appointment and also asked to sign paperwork. I was quoted around $900.00.

On October 23 2003 I had the hair extensions placed by a girl named Carly and was charged $1300.00. These extensions were supposed to last 4-6 months. Several days later they kept falling out and also noticed my scalp was drying out and itching constantly.

After several calls I would go in and Donte charged me for additional product each time and said don't come back until more extensions need to be reglued. Also Carly would keep regluing the extensions into my scalp. A few days later the extensions would fall out again and noticed now they were falling out in strands as I was talking to customers at my work. Also the extensions were used and not first quality as originally paid for.

Called Donte and complained but up to the present time has not responded to any of my complaints. Just indicated that it was over the 30 day period and there was nothing he could do.

Donte advertised in the Rep and Dex directory. I spent $1300.00 for extensions that lasted less than 2 months and totally destroyed my scalp.

It took me almost a year to recondition my scalp and hair back to normal.

#2REBUTTAL Owner of company

In response to the commments made by Nichole regarding the services she received from Donte's of New York, a couple of very important and factual things should be noted.

Contrary to Nichole's claim of paying $3500.00 in 4 months to Donte's of New York for services, she paid $2543.00 in 6 months and was given discounts as well as free services that were not the fault of Donte's of New York. Also it should be noted the following taken directly from the Better Business Bureau Website:

"Based on BBB files, this company has a satisfactory record with the Bureau. Any complaints processed by the Bureau in its three-year reporting period have been resolved. The number and type of complaints are not unusual for a company in this industry. Consumers are advised to thoroughly read and understand their contract prior to signing and receiving services.

To have a "Satisfactory Record" with the Bureau, a company must be in business for at least 12 months, properly and promptly address matters referred to it by the Bureau, and be free from an unusual volume or pattern of complaints and law enforcement action involving its marketplace conduct. In addition, the Bureau must have a clear understanding of the company's business and no concerns about its industry.

When evaluating complaint information, please consider the company's size and volume of business. The number of complaints filed against the company may not be as important as the type of complaints and how the company handled them.

The Bureau processed a total of 3 complaints about this company in the last 36 months, our standard reporting period. Of the total 3 complaints in the last 36 months, All of those were closed more than 12 months ago.

Once again, contrary to Nichole's claims, we have only had 3 resolved complaints over the past 3 years, not 5 as stated by Nichole. When considering we serve hundreds of clients a year, please take into account the insignificance that 3 complaints in 3 years makes on our track record.

Nichole did in fact receive hair extension services from Donte's of New York. On August 24, 2005, Nichole came into our salon for a consultation. (another inconsistency stated by Nichole is that she came to our salon on Ocotber 23, 2003) At that time she was shown the many different types of hair extensions that we provide. She was also given a quote of what the hair extensions would cost to be installed and of which Nichole agreed to the price of $1116.00. (Another inconsistency Nichole said she was quoted $900.00 and that she gave a $50.00 deposit) She also gave us a deposit of $558.00 which was her choice since generally we only request a small deposit. On August 26, 2005, Nichole had 3 bundles of extensions applied by Carly and paid her remainder balance of $558.00. (Yet again more inconsistencies since Nichole states that she came in on october 23, 2003 and paid $1300.00)

As far as Nichole coming in several days later with hair extension loss, itching and dry scalp, this is yet again another inconsisteny. The following is what occurred per our customer records:
On August 30, 2005, Nichole came in to have her hair trimmed by one of our technicians at no cost to her, because she wanted her hair cut a bit shorter. On September 7, 2005, Nichole came in for another consultation. At first Nichole, said that when her hair was cut on August 30, 2005 it was cut incorrectly. However, knowing her Technician's track record and discussing the haircut with the Technician, it was hard to agree with Nichole. After some discussion with Nichole, she apologized she didn't tell us at first, but she actually had tried to cut her hair herself. Since, Nichole had the extensions recently put in; we wanted to provide her with good customer service. To be fair, we decided to give her a discount on her next batch of hair extensions, which would be in 3-6 months. We did this, even though the haircut was clearly not something we had caused. It is also clearly stated in our service waiver release (which was signed by Nichole) that we cannot be held responsible for any services done outside of Donte's of New York. At no time did Donte ever tell Nichole that she could not come back in and since we do not use glues to attach our extensions, then regluing them would not be an option.

On December 22, 2005, Nichole had her next batch of hair extensions installed at a reduced price. As promised we gave her a discount due to her having cut her own hair upon the first installation of hair extensions, again we gave her a discount even though this is something we clearly did not cause.

On February 21, 2006, Nichole came in to have 1 more bundle of hair extensions added, highlights applied as well as to have her existing extensions taken out and put back in.

Donte's of New York has been in business in Arizona for the past 6 years and was in business in New York for over 35 years. Our policy at Donte's of New York is that we guarantee our work and will repair any problems our customers may have with their hair extensions &/or hair replacement. However, to repair these problems, we would need to have the opportunity to assess the client's hair extensions to determine what the actual problem is. Nichole never had hair extension loss when she lived in Arizona but soon after she moved to Chicago, we received a letter from Nichole stating that she was losing her hair extensions. It seems odd that in the 6 months Nichole was a client and wore hair extensions in Arizona there were no hair extension loss problems but as soon as Nichole moved to Chicago the hair extension loss began. Hair extensions should be a positive experience for our clients and we strive to make it just that. However, hair extensions as are other beauty techniques are not always for everyone.

We are clearly sorry that Nichole feels our customer service was not satisfactory. We have been in business for over 40 years and strive to make all of our customers very happy. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to explain the events as they happened. We hope that the information documented here can clear up many of the inconsistencies that have been stated in Nichole's report.
