Steve Said, the owner of Dosey Doe is refusing to honor a contract he signed for an April 1 performance by a young up and coming band from Los Angeles. Mr. Said cancelled the date (1) week before the scheduled performance, and his only explaination was due to lack of ticket sales, he is cancelling the show. He did not offer any solution to the situation, or take any responsibility for his lack of marketing. Legally, he is responsible for paying the band the 50% deposit in the event the venue cancells the show. I have a signed contract with the cancellation policy, and an email from Mr. Said stating he will send the bands deposit immediately. After (2) weeks and no check, I started calling his office, and he was clearly dodging my calls, having his assistant tell me he can't be found in the building, EVER! His behavior is unacceptable and is extremely damaging to bands trying to make a living in a very tough business. When artists get screwed like this, is can be devestating to their livelyhood, as they still have to pay for the flights and travel expenses incurred while on tour. This man is dishonest and operates with zero integrity. I was also informed that he did the exact same thing to the comedian Gallagher a few years back and his agent has the same grievances towards Mr. Said. He needs to honor his agreements and make this right.
