This letter is for anyone that is new or a veteran to the trucking industry and thinking about applying for a driving job at Doug Coleman Trucking Ltd. Do Not Do It!! This will be the biggest mistake you could make in your career.

During your interview you are told that you will be making $17 an hour with driving experience and $16 for new drivers. What they dont tell you is that most of the runs are Rate Bids. Example: Say you do a run and you get paid the $17 an hour, the rate pay for that is calculated at $102. Now figure that run takes you 8-9 hours to do, lets figure that out....Your getting paid for 6 hours of work and anything over and above that is FREE. Do you want to work for Free???, because of you do then work for this company.

The hand book they give to every driver, is only working towards the company not the driver. Coleman believes the customer is more important that the health, safety and welfare of their drivers. Example: If the Temperature is 90-100 plus which it has been this summer alone, or during winter time below freezing, you are not allowed to idle the truck to stay cool or warm depending on weather conditions. The companies that you pick up and or deliver to say they wont load or unload trucks with trucks that are idling, when you tell coleman about this they do not help the drivers at all. They say they work with what customers want and if you want to work here then you have to follow what the customer wants as well. So final word Drivers are NOT important to Doug Coleman Trucking. They have told many drivers that, drivers are a dime a dozen. If you start stating facts about the company to them they will and have many times to drivers terminate you. Especially if you have complaints or concerns about your health.

SO in closing the only person that Doug Coleman and his staff are concerned about is themselves and the companies that they pick up and deliver to...Their Safety Person will not help out at all even though it is HER job to make sure anything that has to do with safety is addressed.

Doug Coleman Trucking Limited uses drivers and tosses them away like yesterdays trash with no care or concern for the drivers or their Families!!

#4UPDATE EX-employee responds

I drove for Coleman based out of Cami. In Feb 2016 i quit ! forced dispatch and not giving a hoot abot the drivers hours of serivce is a serious issue and the MTO don't play games. Endanger my licence =  BYE BYE ! I always wonder WHY out pay cheques are wrong? Despite the fact, our sign in was via a palm reader that gets sent directly to the payroll department, it still stays the same.. serewed up and short changed ! The dispatch ladies at Cami and the drivers, pay is always short changed.. So why work for this company ? just say NO  THANKS !!

#4UPDATE Employee ..inside information

Mon, January 26, 2015

Hi, i would like to say thank you for also submitting an article about DOUG COLEMAN TRUCKING, theres just a few things i would like to add that i have noticed, and had information on from office staff.

for starters, i was told the same thing as you about the wages, and i thought everything was alright. after a few pays i realized i wasnt getting paid for all my hours worked and looked into it and thats when i found out that i was getting paid a flat rate.  no matter what its only 6 hours, i had a run at the start of my career with them that had me pick up in london at 230 in the afternoon so i started at 2 then had to be to chattham for 430, usually unloaded and reloaded by 6 and back in london by 7, offloaded by 730 then had to sit around until 930 until my next load was ready then i had to go to toronto drop a load, wait for an hour then back to london, drop by 330-4 then i was expected to fuel up and do a post trip, well if you dont know.. 2pm till 4 am is 14 hours, legal amount of hours worked, but they still wanted this extra work done. I never did because its illegal to work past the legal amount of hours in a day.  If i didnt fuel, i would get yelled at, if i didnt show time on the peoplenet that i did a post trip then i got yelled at.

after a couple months of that run they got rid of the chattham run to a windsor driver and cut my hours to 6 hours a day and not 14, let me tell you, thats 1 hell of a pay cut, after that it was a constant battle to make more money. but even still they liked to jip hours from me.

i finally had enough of it and i asked coleman about it, i explaned in a hand written letter what was up, what i had in bills, that hes cut my hours and i desperatly need more work... you know what he did? lol he uploaded my letter to an email, and sent it to everyone in the company in every yard! real real professional isnt it. a little while later after i was 70 hours short on a pay.. thats right.. 70 hours short i asked him again in a typed up letter if he could explain it to me... just like the last time, not a single reply from the man who owns this so called "professional" company.

after working so many hours and him pissing me off i left a note with dispatch stating that im calling in sick for the next day as i dont have a cell phone anymore because it got cut due to lack of payment.. again colemans fault. I mentioned in the note that i would return on friday.. 1 day later... and continue my shiift! and wouldnt you know it, i showed up on friday for my shift and everyone is looking at me like.. whats he doing here? apparently i quit and i wasnt coming back but if i wanted to work they could use me next week, that had my 2 runs friday covered and my extra run on sunday covered...

i broke down one early morning in toronto, i couldnt get a hold of dispatch, another longhaul driver happened to hear me on the cb and offered his cell phone so i could call dispatch since they wernt ansering my satalite messages, i had a fuel leak and the truck wouldnt start, it was -22 and windy, the snow was starting to blow and i had 100% no heat, i sat there for a solid 2 hours before a temp guy hauling for him came to help, they sent him to hook to my load, i looked at him like, dude, my truck doesnt start, i cant disconnect for you to hook up.  Thankfully he let me come sit in his truck for a few mins to get warm while he called his dispatch to say what was up... you know what they told him? haha, fml, they told him to leave me there that he had things to do. Thankfully this driver was nice and told them to go f**k themselves i had been there for over 2 hours with no heat and he was going to sit there with me until i warmed up or a tow came.. finally 330 in the morning comes and a tow shows up.. says to me after hes all hooked up, why didnt you call sooner i was sleeping in my truck just a couple miles down the highway, boy oh boy was i pissed. Dispatch finally got back to me and told me that i still had a load to deliver and got to the CANADA POST IN TORONTO aka BMF and found out someone already picked up my load, so not only did i have to bob tail back in someone elses truck who started 2 hours after i took it.. leaving him with no truck to do his load, i only got paid half my wage, and nothing for the time spent broke down... yet he pays 17.75 an hour... why offer an hourly rate if its not actually by the hour.

final straw, my license expired on jan 3rd, they told me a week prior to this that i had to get it renewed, which was fine, but because he doesnt pay up half the time i was a little short on cash for it. other drivers and dispatch told me to ask sara coleman for an advance.. the owners daughter, who is in charge of payroll.. she informed me 2 days later that they dont do them yet i had over 5 people tell me to ask for 1.  so i had to downgrade my license and wait for my pay to come in then go do the test and get it back... i gave coleman my updated info and was expecting to return, however they decided that i wasnt allowed back, they gave my dedicated run fully to someone else and the V.P Rick Miller told dispatch to not give me any loads, i havent worked since jan 3rd and this is now the 26th, i have bills bouncing and rent due in 4 days and no money what soever, not to mention my gf is 25 weeks pregnant... just f***** awesome

needless to say, if you want to be used abused and treated like your nothing by all means go to work for this goof, but if you know whats better for you please do yourself a favor and dont even consider him for a job.

Im currently in the process of trying to apply for EI but SARA COLEMAN ignored me for 5 days.. i finally had to go to OW and set up a file and they called COLEMAN and requested the info, next thing i know i have a couple emails stating that they will be ready and in my mailbox the next day!!! really says something about how the company is run. Sorry for writing a long long long letter but honestly this company needs to be shut down.

Theres only a couple office staff who do thier jobs, and they are the only ones who will be straight with me which is how i found out they lost a couple contracts, plus the fact that upper management doesnt want me employed there anymore,  theres been a few accidents where people in cars have been killed because COLEMAN hires drivers who cant drive worth a dam, ive been hit by another coleman driver while i was beside him on HIGHBURY AVE in LONDON ONT the guy crossed the dotted line and side swiped me, then when i got up to him, his feet were up, 1 hand was on the wheel and he was giving me a dirty look like it was my fault.. like come on, wheres the professionalism in this company? oh right.. there isnt any.

i could go on and on and on and on, please feel free to ask questions if you want to know more, other then that, thanks for reading and hope its kept you from applying to a career killing company.. oh and 1 last thing.. there shippers dont know how to load trailers, they asked me to take a last min run to the CAVANDISH plant and i delivered it, opened the doors and got bitched out by thier supervisor because he thought i loaded it until i said what was up... you know why they were angry.. they loaded all the toxic chemicals with all of thier dry food products.. if anything had spilled any problems what soever.. well you know what would have happened.. Stupid stupid people.
