Complaint Review: Doug Keaty

Douglas Keaty Aka Perfect Patches was hired to build two garage buildings in March of 2014. Doug Keaty was renting the house on the property where the garages were being built and prior to starting the garages he asked permission to build a chicken coop. With the understanding that the chicken coop would belong to the property and property owner after he no longer lived at the property.

The chicken coop was constructed pror to starting construction on the garage buildings. Doug Keaty was well aware of zoning restrictions of the chicken coop but did not follow zoning rules and regulations. 

The construction of the garages began June of 2014, a project of this size would normally take 3 months with the garages being unfinished on the inside. Doug Keaty did not timely schedule subcontractors to keep the construction going in a timely manner. At the end of September Doug Keaty finally started getting bids from 3 electricians. We chose his electrician Tom Weingard to do the electrical work. Tom Weingard started the electrical rough in and said he was ready for inspection on October 17. Tom Weingard was telling Doug Keaty that the city of Albuquerque electrical inspector kept rescheduling the inspection. I called the city to complain about this and they informed me no electrical permit had been issued for the garages. I researched Tom Weingard and discovered he was not a licensed electrician. I informed Doug Keaty of my discovery of him hiring an unlicensed electrician and he assured me my information was incorrect that he had know Tom weingard for 20 years and he was licensed. Tom weingard was paid $3,300.00 up to this point. Tom Weingard did not respond to Doug Keaty's repeated phone calls. Doug keaty finally admitted Tom Weingard had disappeared and Taken the money without doing enough work.

Doug Keaty refused to take responsibility for his mistake and said "there are risks in building and this is one of them." 

In December Doug Keaty hired unlicensed workers to dig a trench and install a sewer line under his plumber Dave Marsters permit and license. While these workers were ilegally performing work they cut through the buried natural gas line. Doug Keaty's response to his mistake of not supervising while they were digging and damaging the gas line was "I'm just glad my name is and not on the report that Gas Company of NM filled out" 

I was forced to terminate Doug Keaty as General contractor due to his constant mistakes and lack of supervision of the job he was hired to do. Doug Keaty then presented me with an inflated bill of work performed with inaccurate hours of labor overcharging me. I know this because my brother worked for him and knew he was inflating the labor.

Doug Keaty elected not to take any responsibility for the losses of money and damage while acting as general contractor and even though it was made clear he would not be allowed to take the chicken coop with him when he vacated the house he proceeded to try to blackmail me into letting him take it by threatening to call the city of albuquerque and report the zoning code violations that the chicken coop he built himself was presenting. On February 26 two days before his move out date he called the city of albuquerque to report the coop, they came and tagged it as a possible code violation. Without informing me, the owner of the property, of this action by the city he brought his crew to the property and they started disassembling the chicken coop without my permission or knowledge. I was forced to call the police to get him to stop and when the police arrived he told three separate stories as to why he was disassembling the chicken coop, first was to me "I built it and the city is ordering it be torn down." the second was to me "I was just remodeling it" the third was to the police "it is being donated to a 4H club." Doug Keaty is the most dishonest, deceitful, irresponsible and manipulative businessman I have ever come across.
