"Doctor" Sharna Striar is illegally marketing herself as a profesisonal psychologist on sites like this:

http://www.ratemds.com/doctor-ratings/80857/Dr-Sharna-Striar-New+York-NY.html

She, in fact, IS NOT a psycholgist.  She is a nurse, NOT A DOCTOR, and is not licensed to practice psychology in the state of New York.

This fact can be quickly and easily verified here:

http://www.op.nysed.gov/opsearches.htm

The title "psychologist" is legally reserved for those holding a DOCTORATE IN PSYCHOLOGY and also a state issued LICENSE TO PRACTICE AS A PSYCHOLOGIST.

It is really appalling that she can break the law so blatantly for personal gain and have no consequences, and also that she can be rated as the "Number one psycholgost in New York".  Her ratings are either completley fabiricated or unethically solicited.  Actual psycholgists are not permitted to solict ratings from clients.

It similarly appauling that unaware consumers are actually going to sites like these thinking they are being responsible and checking up on professionals they plan to see for treatment, yet they are being completley lied to and mislead.

BEWARE of "Doctor" Sharna Striar.

I have been a patient of Sharna Striar for almost 3 years, and to see the review below of her misrepresenting herself in anyway is completly untrue.  If you look at any of her reviews from other reputible review sites (Healthgrade, Yelp, Google+)  You will see exactly what her patients think of her.  I'm not sure if the reviewer below had an ax to grind, and felt that he/she was mislead about Sharna's qualifications, all I can say is that has not been mine, or other patients she has worked with over the years.

The reason that I am writing a rebuttal is that I reacently recommended her to a friend of mine, and when they looked for reviews, this wa the first site to come up.  I don't think this in anyway was a fair or accurate review of Sharna.  I urge others to look to other review sites that have a much more balanced opinion of her.

Your response continues to attmept to mislead readers about your credentials.  Can you succintly and simply answer the following question:

Are you or are you not a licensed professional psychologist?  If you cliam to be, what is your license number?  Not your NURSING license number, your license to practice as a psychologist in the state of NY.

Your unverified "PhD from the School of Education, Dept of Educational Psychoogy" is not a doctorate to practice clinical psychology and does not invlove the supervised clincial training for therapy required of a licensed clincial psychologist which includes:

1500 min hours psychodiagnostic practicum

1500 min hours therapy practicum

one full year of full time supervised clinical practice in pre-doctoral internship

one full year of supervised clincal practice in post-doctoral intership.

A simple Wikipedia search of NLP reveals the moutain of research that reveals it is a sham, pseudoscience that has no support in the clincial research.

Your 8 new stellar ratings on the Healthgrades website in less than two weeks (since your false profile on RateMDs.com was removed by the site) suggest once again that you are either soliciting positive reviews or creating them yourself with contrived email addresses.

You are also violating your ethics code as a regsitered nurse by using false and misleading statements about your credentials in your marketing efforts.  Should a formal complaint be filed and screenshots of your miselading profiles be submitted, your license will be at risk.

I welcome the opportunity to clarify the professional credentials that underlie my therapy practice of over 30 years. I received my B.S.N. degree in Nursing from Boston University, followed by an M.S.N. in Psychiatric Nursing at Hunter College. I then received my Ph.D. from the School of Education, Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Michigan. My training continued at Cornell University Medical College, Department of Psychiatry, as a Fellow in the Human Sexuality Training Program directed by internationally noted Psychiatrist and Sex Therapist, Dr. Helen Singer-Kaplan.  I was privileged to join Dr. Kaplan’s clinical practice at the conclusion of my training, treating patients and coordinating her research efforts.

I have taught in my fields of interest as a faculty member at the University of Michigan, School of Nursing and later as an Adjunct Professor at Hunter College Department of Psychology. I have enjoyed numerous opportunities to speak at a variety of professional forums and on nationally televised programs.

Over the years I have participated in numerous continuing education trainings and symposia in such areas as cognitive therapy, sex therapy, neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) and mindfulness. I have also given lectures on these subjects to my colleagues in various settings.

My primary focus continues to be counseling individuals and couples most of whom are in their twenties and thirties.  I am gratified that many of my patients have posted heartfelt and positive comments about their experiences with my practice. I have a commitment to remaining current in my field and make every effort to do.
