I bought my black female dane from DreamCatcher Danes in May 2008.  I spoke to him/Wayne the night before so he knew what time I was arriving, when I arrived the gate was closed, I opened the gate & I found long large dog runs with a lg doghouse in each run w/2 dogs per run.  As I drove in the dogs were going crazy, my oldest daughter and granddaughter were with me. I have had 6 danes prior to getting Molly so I am very well versed in danes....I did think about leaving when I saw the surroundings but didn't, I was so excited to get a puppy/new friend for my 3yr old dane Quincy.

I pulled up to his house & he didn't come out so I called & he came out, I introduced myself & my family & asked "are the puppies in the house?" & his response was "no, the puppies don't go in the house"oh boy, what do I do? He said she is over there, she was sitting in the corner in the dirt at the corner of the house so I walked over to pick her up, she was black with white on her chest & paws, the 3 of us looked at her & he said "do you want her?" my daughter & granddaughter then walked away to see the horses at this point. I said yes even though I knew I was doing the wrong thing, he runs a puppy mill.

I asked if I could see her parents so we walked along the dog runs & I was petrified because of how the dogs were barking & running up against the runs....I had NEVER seen this activity in a dane before,  it was scary!! It was a hot day, May 18, 2008 to be exact & Mt St Helens was visible from his "farm".  The water in the runs had green slim in some of the buckets & flies were flying around & landing on their soaked food.  I knew I was doing wrong though I felt I needed to get her out of there because she could easily end up being used for breeding. He microchiped her & took my $500 personal check at which time the 3 of us got in my Explorer & I put Molly in her crate & I told my granddaughter to keep her hands away from her face & mouth. I told my daughter & granddaughter that the 1st thing we are going to do is stop to wash our hands, get her good dog food & give her a bath.

I took her to my vet to have her checked & she had horrible worms & diarrhea which resolved with medications.  I had talked to him/Wayne the night before I picked her up & told him what my occupation was, where I lived, that I had a 5' totally enclosed back yard, what type of dog food I was going to feed her & that I will get Vet Insurance for her, his response was "maybe I should charge more for her", I asked him about a cashier's check & he said a personal check was ok.

I had never had a dane with a bad temperment until Molly, she was very mean to Quincy who was very laid back & she would lunge at me, I was actually afraid of this puppy. I took her camping to Pacific Beach & thought about just leaving her there (could I have done that...no, plus she was microchipped) I didn't know what to do. I had a long conversation with the Breeder I got Quincy from regarding this problem, I had several visits with a trainer & after that I had to flip her on her back numerous times, grab her face & let her know I was in charge & that this type of behavior was unacceptable.

I did not start liking this dog until she bloated/torsioned several months after she turned 2 & had to have emergency surgery in the middle of the night during a snowstorm & I knew I couldn't have her put down though this was the perfect out for me, emergency surgery to the tune of $2500 +/-, she had surgery & recovered nicely & lived to the age of 8yrs old & had to have her put down because of her osteosarcoma, a very sad day for sure.

There were many red flags regarding Wayne (1) accepting a personal check (2) not doing a home visit or ask for references (3) making the remark about charging more for her (4) the surroundings I found at his farm...the dirt, water, soaked food in the middle of a hot day (5) a puppy that did not wag her tail when picked up (6) the remark about the puppies not going in the house (7) when I asked what he did for a living & he said "I sell puppies, if I don't sell puppies I don't sleep at night"

Buyers beware, I have watched his website over the years & he has had as many as 37 dane puppies for sell at one time, there is no way that you can socialize & raise that many puppies.

Oh, by the way, I told him where I got the majority of my danes/very well know reputable breeders in the Seattle area & north as well as in Canada, he never cashed my check though he had my phone number, he had been turned in to AKC several months earlier by someone, I don't know who though find it very interesting that he passed up $500 for a puppy after making his remark about selling puppies.

I'm sure you wonder why I am coming out now, well because the Dane Rescue in Western Washington & in Oregon are no longer taking/accepting danes & I have been told because they were getting too many nasty dogs.

Molly had a good life with me, I did love her & took exceptional good care of her, I lost Quincy at 11yrs of age when he had a seizure/stroke & was paralyzed in his back legs & 9 weeks later I lost Molly to Osteosarcoma.

I have a new Dane, Ava, who I got from a very very good breeder 2 months after losing Molly. They live just south of the Canadian border, please don't buy a dane from Dreamcatcher Danes, research breeders, save your money & get a well rounded, well socialized puppy from a breeder that will always be there to support you & will take the puppy or adult dog back if you can no longer care for it!

Thanks for your time

Dreamcatchers is as honest and reputable as they come

I have known Wayne Kiser and Dreamcatcher Great Danes for over 10 years first as a customer and then as a friend. My family has visited the ranch on multiple occasions over the years and found healthy dogs that adore their caretaker. The love the dogs have for Wayne is apparent as you walk down the driveway and they jump up on their enclosures tails wagging and drool flinging with excitement, NOT fear or aggression. I am sorry this complainant knows so little about canine body language he mistook their greeting as fearful or aggressive. I am sure they were picking up on his apparent fear just as the puppy he took home learned to. In my opinion, he would have benefitted greatly from Cesar Milan's methods and coaching about how to be the alpha and read canine body language. Even he himself says he did not like the dog until he went thru a traumatic event with it. Dogs pick up on that and behave accordingly.

Wayne Kiser's dogs are fed better than most pets I know and are most certainly not treated like puppy mill dogs. I do not know of any other breeders with more than two dogs (or most pet owners) that feed fresh real raw meat to their dogs especially on top of supplements and free choice kibble. The only health issue I have known his dogs to have over the years is occasional obesity.

Yes, there are genetic issues that despite Wayne's careful planning can crop up occasionally. Great Danes were created long ago to be bear and lion fighters it has taken many generations to breed that ferocity and aggression out of the breed. Some bloodlines are more prone to that tendency still and once discovered are culled from his carefully planned breeding program. Great Danes are also as a breed prone to droopy eyes because everyone wants big wrinkly dogs without thinking about the side effects their fads will create. Thankfully the fad of chopping their tails did not last long. Because of their size, Great Danes are also prone to heart defects and bloat which is why every puppy has its heart checked while doing routine health inspections by his vet starting at a very young age.

I have been to puppy mills with dogs kept in small cages or buildings never seeing the light of day, or being allowed to socialize except when they are mated EVERY time they come in heat until they die. Anyone who even thinks about calling Dreamcatcher ranch a puppy mill needs to google that word and see what a puppy mill really is. You cannot be a puppy mill and be AKC, or USDA certified. No puppy mill breeder would EVER invite a vet to their facility.

When puppymills have puppies that are a less valuable color they commonly drown or kill the puppies at birth. Don't fool yourself this is very common with a lot of show breeders as well. Harlequin and merle great danes are known to throw all white puppies which can be deaf or blind. Instead of doing like a puppy mill that only cares about money Wayne has a resource of special rescue homes experienced in caring for these angels as well as uses his vast knowledge of genetics and bloodlines to avoid producing these types of pups as often as possible.

Wayne's dogs are kept in a natural manner being paired with other age-appropriate dogs in large grassy/dirt enclosures to run, play, and be dogs in. He has regular inspections from the USDA and AKC to ensure his animals are cared for. His dogs are given rests after litters, and retired to pet homes, unlike puppy mill dogs that would be inhumanely disposed of when they can no longer make money.

His whelping and nursing mothers are given large individual rooms off his house where he spends MANY, many hours of the night with them supervising and supplementing pups. I know because I have in the past helped him out remotely via his surveillance cameras in each room so he could get a much-needed nap. His mothers and pups are also regularly visited by the vet to monitor their health and growth.

Yes, Wayne does keep his gate closed and for good reason to avoid germs or stray animals which might cause injury to his dogs. Every reputable breeder knows the dangers of allowing people to set foot on their grounds and yet Wayne risks that so people can personally tour his farm and have all their questions answered. I know plenty of breeders that for the safety of their dogs will never allow an outsider to set foot on their property. They are not hiding anything they are protecting their investment and their livelihood. Certain illnesses like Parvo can easily be tracked on tires or shoes and can quickly devastate an entire breeding program. Wayne is one of the few breeders I know that has been lucky enough not to have dealt with Parvo on his ranch.

The number one thing people say about Wayne's puppies is how easy they are to house train. That is saying a lot because Great Danes are not the brightest breed. I have learned in 40+ years of owning, showing, breeding, and training dogs of many breeds that puppies will for life have a built-in desire to potty on what they are exposed to as weaning puppies. Puppies weaned indoors on linoleum, carpet, or potty pads are the hardest ones to house train! They search out like kind flooring to relieve themselves. Puppies weaned on concrete will forever be pooping on your sidewalks! Puppies weaned on straw or dirt are by far the easiest to not only house train but teach to use a specific part of the yard for their business rather than on the grass, sidewalk, or patio.

Yes having so many puppies can be overwhelming but the one thing most people don't understand is Wayne's dogs are his life. 24/7 365 he is there for them. He doesn't take vacations or live in a huge house getting rich off dogs and breeding, instead he does what a reputable breeder does he invests the money back into the care of his dogs. As far as socializing puppies Wayne has had not only his kids and grandkids living on the property or close by to help with puppy wrangling he also hires young adults to help with cleaning and socializing all his dogs, not just the pups. Not to mention the network of canine professionals (vets, feed specialists, trainers, and fellow breeders) he encircles himself with for advice, and help if needed.

Once many years ago I ended up in a sudden and dire situation and who do you think without batting an eye offered to take my Danes for as long as I needed. Once again, unlike so many breeders, Wayne risks everything to take back any dog he created because he is a responcible breeder. If one of his dogs ever ends up in a rescue or pound you can be sure those microchips he puts in every puppy makes it so he is notified. I have even been in a position to go pick up one such dog when Wayne was notified about one in my state that had been abandoned.

Every year I hear of adults that a previous buyer for whatever personal reason could no longer keep. If Wayne is not in a position to take the dog back himself he immediately makes arrangements for it to be adopted into a new home. I myself have been the recipient of a couple such dogs over the years and they have been wonderful companions for the pups I have purchased from Dreamcatcher Great Danes.

The fact Wayne still takes personal checks and allows people to tour his ranch despite multiple people warning him the dangers speaks volumes about the character he is. Wayne Kiser is trusting, kind, and has absolutely nothing to hide. Read his references (and even this complaint) they all say the same thing he was very open with the prospective puppy buyers and never failed to reply to questions even after the puppy went to its new home.

Breeders like Wayne are a rare gem, I have the experience as a trainer and dog show frequenter to know just how rare.

If you're looking for a reputable, open, and experienced breeder that backs up his dogs for life then I suggest contacting Wayne Kiser of Dreamcatcher Ranch and find out the truth for yourself.

False Claim, 10 years after the fact

#3REBUTTAL Owner of company

First of all I find it weird that someone waits 10 years to submit a claim. I have been breeding Great Danes for over 23 years, am a USDA permited Dog Breader, which by the way is something very HARD to get, Lewis County permited Dog Breader and a member of the BBB with an A+ rating.  My Great Dane puppies are not left next to the house in the dirt, they are in whelping rooms with fenced runs to play in. I never PUSH people to buy any of my Great Dane puppies. All of my Great Danes come with the ability to register them with AKC, a copy of the Puppy Exam that is done here on Dreamcatcher Ranch by my Vet, Shot and Worming records and they will be microchipped with an AKC Renunite Micro chip here on the ranch. Mt St Helens is not visible from the ranch as it is hidden by evergreen trees on the rigde. All of my dog runs have very large water troughs with are cleaned regulary

I really don't see any problem is accepting a Personal check, most people are honest, in 23 + years of raising Great Danes I have only received 3 "bad" checks, 2 of which corrected this within a day or 2.  My prices are very reasonable, most of the time lots lower than other breeders. I list my Great Dane puppies on Puppy Find and have tons of very good reveiws, of Facebook and on my web site www.dreamcatchergreatdanes.us , which I also have tons of very good reviews. Most of my Adult Great Dane females weigh in at around 140 pounds or more, my largest male was/is at 250 lbs. They are fed 3 to 5 lbs of raw meat a day plus Costco's Kirkland Adult Lamb and Rice or Diamond Brand Adult Lamb and Rice with some broth.

Thanks for taking the time to read this
