Did the insurance company completely pay off your car, or did they just give you what it was worth, but you owed more? Did you get the extra GAP insurance offered by the dealer when you bought the car?

Say you owe $10,000 on a car that's totaled, but the insurance company only pays $8000 because that's all the car's worth. You would still owe Drive the $2000 balance. However, if you elected GAP insurance, the GAP would cover the remaining $2000.

You need to check your loan paperwork to see if you got GAP. If so, you need to find out which company the dealer uses to insure for GAP and have them pay the difference. If you did have GAP, I'm not sure if it's too late to make the claim.
