I purchased a 2004 Ford Explorer in 12/2010. Due to my daughters chemotherapy and unbelievable amount of medical bills we had less than perfect credit and when my Pontiac gave out it seemed like Drivetime was the only company that would help. I didn't realize it was at a terrible cost. Now I would like to state that although I was aware of the cost's at signing I was unable to decline due to needing a car to help transport my terminal daughter to and from the hospital. We put 2,200 down and agreed to 191.00 every two weeks. I have been paying since and I wanted to post this as a warning to ANYONE thinking about purchasing a vehicle from these people. My sale price for this car was 24,000 and the car is worth different things on different sites but the max I found was 8,900. I was shocked... here I am crying explaining my daughter is dying and they upcharge me over 10,000 more than what the care is worth. There is no wiggle room for us anymore and now that my daughter is nearing her end and we missed 80.00 on one payment they are hounding me at every turn. I am a strong woman and will always honor what I promise but we need help and they are not the place to go! EVER!!!! I am now trying to figure out how to come up with the remaining 11,705.87 I owe when I have to decide between a car payment and my daughter's last wishes. It is heartbreaking to watch America fall like this. I am not one to complain that something I signed so this is a simple plea to protect someone else in future... BEWARE!

Their interest rate is high only because you have bad credit. Or put more descriptively, you gave yourself bad credit. Don't want to be a subprime customer...don't destroy your credit. None of the side issues you raise have any bearing on this either. Drive Time didn't do these things either. The time to decide a car costs too much is BEFORE you sign the contract. Nobody forced you to buy from them. You DECIDED to pay those prices and their "quality". Good credit is a resource to have and to protect. If anyone else is affected by your bad credit, you should have considered that when you decided to not pay your bills on time which gave you bad credit. And no, I don't work for for them.
