Duke Energy This company communicated difficulties with their power grid during cold weather, via email and text. This suggested weaknesses within this capability, and following this event, Duke energy charged their customers anywhere from 30% to 50% over their stated costs. They never communicated this within their emails- only that customers should be considerate of their energy consumption. There was no warning that billing would not only rise, but exponentially.
