Duke Power Cresent Land & Timber in the carolinas ripped off hundreds of people
In the 1960s the Duke Power Company bought land from local farmers to create a lake and a nuclear power facility. More land was purchased than was needed.Today Cresent Land and Timber owns thousands of acres of lakefront property.(notice duke does not own the land because by law a utility can not profit by land development). Who do you think owns Cresent land and timber? You guessed it! Now this company is selling land for hundreds of thousands of dollars per acre that many of the farmers sold for as little as $500.I feel the land should be sold back to the farmers at $500 an acre.

I agree with you...we have a similar situation with CP&L, Progress Energy and now Duke Energy who merged with Progress. I have conclusive information that the land for Tillery Hydroelectric, Blewett Falls, Almond Development, and Swift Island was purchased with plain language documents with understandings and agreements specific to the projects proposed. The land was never used for the developments and the surplus lands have been donated to the State of N C in a deal to get a new license. Other surplus lands around Lake Tillery (NC) have been sold to well connected developers etc for per-acre prices of 12k to 50k undeveloped. The average acquisition price in the 1920,s was $70 dollars per acre under the cloud of condemnation aka eminent domain. Public records that should be in our local courthouses and Secretary of State are suddenly misplaced, never existed, and requests through Freedom of Information is an exercise in corruption from top to bottom in our judicial system. If you are connected to any land, any place, that was acquired by a public utility and not used for the specific intent in the documents...we need to talk and talk loudly. The Courts are bought and we can't high-bid the power companies who can extort money from the public by requestin same from governor appointed commission etc. If your family or anyone you know sold land to Duke Power please go to the respective courthouses and get copies of the deeds or indentures-the originals- and then let's talk, John, Mount Gilead, N C, 27306
