Complaint Review: Dumpster Rental Inc

4/12/2016:  I searched on the internet for a “cheap dumpster rental in Mastic”

Found ad for $299 dumpster. Called “Dumpster Rentals Inc” and asked if they had a 20 yard dumpster for $299 and was told that the 20 yard dumpster cost $450. I asked how soon it could be delivered and would there be any other additional costs? I was told a service fee of $18 would be added for a total cost of $468. I asked Marie (the customer service rep who I was on the phone with) if there were any other hidden charges that might possibly occur. She chuckled and said only if you exceed the 2 ton limit. I asked what might make me exceed the two ton limit and how much additional money would that cost. She replied that ‘concrete and very heavy construction debris’ would cause the load to exceed the 2 ton limit and the load would be weighed at the dump and I would be billed for the overage if that happened. She asked what I planned on putting in the dumpster and I said normal construction debris but no concrete. She said ‘that should be fine’.

I said to Marie “I’ve never used your company before so I just want to make sure there are no other charges that could happen” and she said “No, don’t worry, if you ever need to call just ask for me, Marie, and I will help you”. I asked if I could get the dumpster within a couple of days and she said “Yes”. I asked how long could I have the dumpster for and she said for a couple of weeks. I said “ok” since that fit into the time frame I needed. She then asked for my credit card info which I then gave to her.

At no time did she ever tell me that it was my responsibility to call to get the dumpster removed within those 2 weeks or they would be charging me a per diem fee. I would never have agreed to rent from them. She had ample opportunity to tell me the truth about this giant hidden fee that would keep growing day after day that the dumpster just sat there full waiting for pick up.

I flew back to my home and received a call on May 19th from my NY Real Estate Agent asking “when is the dumpster being removed”?  I was shocked to hear that the dumpster was still there. Since I didn’t have any paperwork or e-mail from the company, I had to find the name of the company on my credit card statement (enclosed) and call them to ask that they pick up their dumpster. A woman named Veronica asked for the address of property and then said that I needed to sign some paperwork. I said “ok, send it to me”. She asked for my e-mail address which I gave to her. Upon opening the paperwork (enclosed) I was stunned to see “Days Overage @ $15 per day”. I said to Veronica that “I can’t sign this paperwork which is saying that I agree to pay any additional $ for days overage since I never knew about this”. She replied ‘that it was my responsibility to call for pickup within 2 weeks and that I should have known this’

She claimed that she had sent me an e-mail back on April 12th after I placed the order. She said ‘that charges would keep adding up until I signed the paperwork and that I already owed an additional $330 for the 22 days overage’.

She said that it wasn’t her responsibility if the e-mail ended up in my spam folder (which it didn’t since it was never sent). I did check my spam folders and I never got anything from Dumpster Rentals Inc until 5/19/2016 when I called to get the dumpster removed.

 I asked to speak to Marie and she said that I would need to speak to someone else at the company and she transferred me. I asked to speak to a supervisor and got Tina who apologized for the policy but said “there is nothing I can do about it”. I asked to speak with the owner of the company (I was told his name is Blake Ocean) and was told he never comes in so I can’t speak with him.

Please take a look at all of the complaints that are similar in nature to mine (on their Facebook page). This company systematically has  created a business mechanism to perpetuate a fraud against consumers like myself and they need to be stopped!
