I got a letter in the mail saying I owed almost $400 for an account from Rent a Center, however, it was a cash advance. I have never in my life taken out a cash advance as I think they areworth item it, and I just never needed to anywayaway, right away, red flags popped up.

then they said it was from 2007, and said it was a bad check written the rent a center, and they were collecting in their behalf. I said I didn't take it out, that someone must've stolen a check if they did in fact have a check that belonged to me. They said it didn't matter, I had to pay it. I said I didn't have $400 to fork over, and even if I did, I wouldn't give them a dime until they sent me a bill, as well as a copy of the bad check and any other info from the account so I could see what was going on.

They said the wouldn't waste the time sending me a bill until I gave them the Payment. They said upon paying the account off, I would receive a copy of th bill. I said no. They asked me, don't you have a job? Why can't you pay it? Aren't you working a decent job?! I said yes I have a good job but i have a family of four to support! They went on to say aren't you ttying to fix your credit? This will stay on your credit, or we will garnish you wages. I see you owe school loans. (I just paid them off, so no, I don't).

i said I'm not paying anything until you show me documents of what this is, and they again refused and said she doesn't t have to show me anything, that I've been sent numerous letters in the mail ( I received one a month or so prior to the call) and that they Didnt have to send anything as it was a waste of their time. I said so you expect me to pay on a bill that I know isn't even mine, and even if it was mine, you still expect me to pay 400 bucks at once without even seeing the bill, without even knowing that this isn't a scam, without any kind of proof, to just trust some person on the phone I've nevER spoken to, just hand over personal financial info and bank info, and I have to expect that this is legit just because you say so? The lady said, that's exactly what I expect you to do, and I'm not wasting anymore time on this, you either pay this or I'm garnishing wages! I said first off you don't know where I work and I don't have to take this, I'm disputing this debt, it's not mine, goodbye!

obvusly this place is a scam, as I have read all the reports. But this does report on our credit, so I'm trying to figure out how to fix this! Ay ideas? By the way, I called rent a center, and found out that the cash advance place they used closed and they no longer do cash advances. Also, rent a center cash advancfom rom rent a center got bought out by another larger company, and when I called them, they said when they bought the smaller company frm rent a center out, they also bought their account to that still owed money, and that I was not in their system, and when I told them what had happened, they n sent me to the phone line of the president of actual company because they wanted him to know that some place was using their name to scam money from fake accounts. So he's suppto calL me back. Call the company of who they say u owe money to!! It's a scam!!
