Young man, maybe 18-19 is selling magazine subscriptions as a way to learn public speaking and self esteem skills. He wanted to be #1 on his team so he could win a trip. I told him i didn't have the money right now and he said he would take a post dated check and i could cancel the order if i wanted and he would still get credit. Well, they ran the check thru 6 weeks before the date, which made account overdrawn until my next check. I am sick of being scammed. I am a single mom with a teenage daughter and i have been scanned (from several different people) out of $3000 the past few months.

Banks and the law do not recognize post dated checks.   If you write a check, it can be cashed at any time.   The reason for this is that there are bad check laws.   In most jurisdictions it is against the law to write a check without having the funds in the account.

One thing you can do to avoid this is to refuse to by anything that is being sold door to door (unless the person is wearing a Girl Scout uniform).   The only things sold door to door are either scams, or products that are not good enough to be sold through normal retail avenues.

The scam magazine subscription sales are an old one.  It's been around for at least 40 years.
