E. Burnham Cosmetic & Retrieval Masters Creditors Bureau BILLS FOR PRODUCT NEVER ORDERED RIPOFF ELMSFORD New York
I have a problem with Retrieval Masters Creditors Bureau, Inc., over some cream that was just sent to me without my having knowingly bought it, and now this same collection company is bothering me for $26.95 in payment for this cream! I had sent away for a free sample of the cream from a mailer form from E. Burnham Cosmetic Co., received that, and soon after that a larger bottle came with no indication that money was owed for it, and I thought, well that's nice, another larger sample, too bad it's very cheap and greasy cream.
Then a bill came a few weeks later for $26.95! I knew that I didn't agree to buy the cream, so I ignored it. Then I got another notice and ignored that, figuring it was just a ploy to get money out of little old helpless ladies. And today I just got a letter of collections from this "Retrieval Masters" company.
Does this company have the power to harm my credit even though I never asked to buy their greasy cream?

Julie:
If these people have your social security number or can reasonably know who you are -they can in fact stick a 'collection' action on your credit bureau -all 3 major bureaus . For 26 dollars i doubt it -but they might claim to be a creditor if they simply 'feel' like they are owed something.
Then your credit score goes down -and you have a 3 to 6 month dog fight on your hands thru disputing the information on the credit bureaus to get it removed.
There is a subsection of people who will just god d**n pay the bill to avoid the hassle
let it be a lesson to be learned - DONT GIVE OUT ANYTHING OR ACCEPT ANY 'FREE PRODUCT' FROM YOUR HOME OR ON THE PHONE EVER.
