On Monday Jan. 16th 2005 we had an appointment for Eagle Carports to come to our residence and install a carport.

(The carport was for my mother, I'm writing for her.)

My mother took a day 1/2 day off of work because Eagle were supposed to arrive mid-morning to install the carport.

My father left work at lunch time to be here when the crew arrived.

10:00, 11:00, 12:00, and 1:00 rolled around, no sign of the crew, no calls, nothing. We wondered what was wrong.

A little after 1:00, we received a call from a random cell phone. A hispanic man who knew very little english said to give him another hour and a half and that they would be there. They claimed that the carport that they were installing in West Jefferson, (15 minutes from our home) was taking longer than expected.

The bull**** begins.

As it so happened, 2:30, and 3:00 came with no sign of this very busy carport installing crew. We then called Eagle carports and alerted them to the situation. We spoke to a very pleasant lady who had no idea that we were waiting to no avail.
She was shocked that they hadn't shown up and didn't really know what was going on.

She said she would do some research, and after a few minutes she called us back. Apparently, there were 3 other jobs in our area that day, and none of the other customers had seen or heard from the crew either. (Even the home in West Jefferson that they were "working on.")

So, like the patient negroes that we are, we waited. We waited and waited, and then called the cell phone of the crew. When we called them, we could hear hammering, and banging, and they told us, "Yes, they left! Give us 30 minutes to get there!" When my mother questioned what was taking them so long, they said, "Oh, wait, we are leaving now, we be there soon."

This was enough to make the Pope say, "what the f...?"

Well, 4:00. 5:00 and 6:00 came, but they didn't. We decided at this point, that this company was very shady and that if they didn't show up, we were no longer interested in their services.

At 6:15, after darkenss falls here in the mountains, the 3 man crew showed up with flashlights, ready to work.
The company had no knowledge that they were going to install the carport in the dark, and said that they shouldn't be doing it at night.

It took them well over 2 1/2 hours to install the carport, after which we were asked to look at it, and approve it, IN THE DARK.

Needless to say, the very next day, the carport, which was never anchored properly, flipped over and is now sitting on an embankment with lots of damage.

Considering how unprofessional the company had been thus far in the installation of the carport, we were sure that they would be understanding, accomodating and take full responsibility.

WE WERE WRONG. We were told to take pictures and email them to the company, we did that. And we waited.

2 days later we are told, "claim it under your homeowners insurance and read your contract, we can't help you."

Claim what? Something that hadn't even been on the property 16 hours before it was damaged? I don't think so.
We will be filing a claim with the NC small claims court to settle this matter.
This company is shady, disreputable, dishonest and incompetent. Its obvious that a terrible job was done. In fact, one of the company reps admitted that they had been having many problems with this particular crew.

Its time for Eagle Carports to bite the bullet, and take responsibility for a job NOT well done.

Reschedule appointment

#3Consumer Suggestion

The company said that they should call to reschedule the appointment if they don't believe the indepedent contractor will make the preset appointment.  The first issue with that is they are not putting their customers first in the inconveinance and possible lost income they face for missing work to be present at the preset time yet the company expects them to be fine with doing that again and again if need be. Secondly, isn't it true that Eagle Carports charges a restocking fee when you have to reschedule an appointment?  How is that fair business practices when it was the companies failure to provide services in the first place?

We take great pride in working very diligent to provide customers with the very best customer service. However, we can not be held responsible for any damage done to your property due to inclement weather which includes high winds. It states this very clearly on the contract provided to the customer, of which they signed at the time of purchase. If the customer knew that they were in an area prone to high winds, we could have offered them a certified carport that would meet the weather specifications in their area.

In our office we schedule the appointments with the customer. We then give this work to an INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR who installs our buildings, and carports. If the crew is running behind, and you are concerned that they will not make your appointment time, it would be wise to call the office immediately to notify us of this incident. In this case we may be able to contact the contractor, and reschedule the appointment if necessary.

Also if the customer was present at the time of installation, they should have told them that it was completely unacceptable for them to start on the installation of their building. Then they should have asked the contractor to come back the next morning to begin. If this was unobtainable by the crew, the customer should have notified the office and we would have rescheduled the appointment.

In essence to this unfortunate occurrence of events, Eagle Carports Inc. is not responsible for the wind or the negligence of the customer.

Thank You,
Eagle Carports Inc.
