I recently moved to a new location about 2 miles from my old address in Texas. I looked on Earthlinks website where it asked for area code and new address to see if I was available. It said that I was so when I moved I tried to get it relocated. Earthlink said that I wasn't able to get service there. I told them I would just cancel my contract since they couldn't provide me with service. I was told it would cost me $145.00 to do this.

I recieved a phone call from another person from earthlink saying that this wasn't right and give him 24 hours to resolve the issue. I agreed. No one ever called back within 24 hours. I sent in a survey of a dissatisfied customer and recieved a phone call. Now I am told I can't get service at that address again and now it will cost me $149.95 to get out of the contract. I was told that I was not paying this because I couldn't get new service it was because I was cancelling the contract at the old line. I know that SBC does all the work, not earthlink, all they do is send me a modem.

Earthlink could have very easily told me that we are sorry we can't provide you with service and we will let you out of your contract free of charge but they would not. Not only do I feel ripped off by earthlink because I am being charged for service I am not getting and was forced to cancel and still pay, everyone I talked to was rude. They basically told me that if I didn't want to cancel earthlink and keep their service, I shouldn't better my life and buy a new house. A new house or earthlink service?? I think earthlink is greedy, inconsiderate to the consumer.

I was an earthlink customer in florida for one year and a customer here in texas for 8 months and they want to treat me like this. The bottom line is the web said I could and their people said I couldn't and I as the consumer has to pay. I believe this is the ultimate ripoff. I am also posting a message on my signature for my company so thsat everyone who I send an e-mail to or sends me an e-mail will see the statement " I feel Earthlink is a ripoff because of they way they treated me"
