I live in a condo community. We were ravaged by Hurricane Wilma.East Coast Window and Door was hired to replace broken windows.

Job was done with PGT aluminum hurricane impact windows. When impact windows are installed, pressure treated wood is used for a new frame.Wood must not contain copper chemical. When copper goes against aluminum, the aluminum erodes.

I asked Ed Morris, the owner of East Coast Window and Door to send me a verification that pressure treated wood did not contain copper. He refused. If copper is in wood the aluminum is destroyed and any warranty from PGT is negated. Why would he refuse to verify proper use of treated wood if he indeed used the proper wood?

They stopped using Chromated Copper Arsenate in pressure treated lumber in 2003. Nothing personal but Ed probably didnt want to deal with such an anal customer. Ive worked in window y and door installation for over 10 yrs. Im 100% sure East Coast perform all their work by code..

Please see our other rebuttals for more information.

We insist that he did NOT contact the owner Ed regarding this matter directly.  Ed Morris is extremely accessible to his customers and gives his cell phone number out all of his customers (it is on his business card). And once we found out there was a complaint through the BBB we offered proof.  No matter what we offered this customer would not accept anything.  He just had it in his head that we did something wrong and would not let go.  Again, see our more detailed rebuttal regarding everyone involved in this job.

I am a representative of East Coast Windows & Doors, Inc.  Below I have posted an excerpt from what we provided to the BBB when this same person complained to them. We were cleared of any wrong doing and still hold an A+ Accredited rating with the BBB.

EXCERPT: We are not sure why after almost three (3) years of the job being completed what basis the complainant has to think we used a more expensive copper based lumber that would have voided the warranty and would not have gone unnoticed by all of the professional people involved.

The pressure treated lumber we used for the window bucking was borate and contains no copper. Borate lumber has a distinctive color to it and that is what was inspected and approved by all parties. All of the specs for this job are in the paperwork that the association has.  On a job this size there are many people involved.  This job was inspected throughout all stages of installation by the City of Pompano Beach (who did in progress inspections), professional  engineers, association representatives as well as the window manufacturer PGT.  All inspections passed. END EXCERPT

The owner absolutely did not refuse to give proof.  The customer never even contacted us directly to try to resolve any concerns he may have had.  Once this all came to light through the BBB complaint we offered copies of the receipts for the lumber we purchased as well as offered to open up an area where the bucking is so the homeowner could have his own professional come out and inspect it. The customer did not take us up on that and continued to post his complaint wherever he could to smear our good name. As far as being investigated by all those entities, we have only ever been contacted by the BBB which, as I mentioned above, we were completely cleared of any wrong doing. We are very open about this so if you would like more info on this incident we would be more than happy to discuss it.

Today is the last day for this company to respond to the BBB.The company has not responded. My complaint is under review and I expect it to become permanent.  I received a response from the Economics Crime Unit of the Florida Attorney General's Office. They have a file on my complaint.  I received a call from Ed Morris owner of this company.I would no respond.  He needed to respond to the BBB in West Palm Beach.

My next action is to get a copy of the contract between East Coast Windows and Doors and the condo association where I live. With this info I can file a complaint against the company with the Department of Business and Professional Regulation and the agency that controls The contractors license of Ed Morris.

This still goes back to the fact he refused to verify that his company used the required pressure treated wood.It is a fact this company used wood frames that are destroying the windows and their is no warranty by PGT.

Please be aware this involves over four hundred homes at a cost of $2.3 million dollars.

I received a reply from the Better Business Bureau.I asked the owner of the company three times by phone and once in person for proof required wood was used.He refused to answer.I contacted Exclusive Property Management Company. They have no proof required wood was used.Owner states I never contacted him for information. That is not true.Owner states required wood was used.
That is not legally binding proof, only hear-say.

I have also contacted Florida Attorney Generals fraud division.I contacted The Federal Trade Commission. I have left a message with Consumer Affairs.Com.

Please realize this was a 2.3 million dollar business deal in over four hundred homes.
