Eaton Corporation used unfair practices (gender, race, and disability) in releasing two employees during their April 2009, Reduction In Force ("RIF").

The first person was a white female, who had just returned to work from a lengthy battle with cancer. They claimed it was a result of job consolidation. However, everyone who worked with her knows that with over 20 years of experience, she should have been the one that kept her Sales job. Her manager (Michael Johnson) also indicated her medical issues as a "strike" against her in her 2008 performance review. If these reductions were based on job consolidation, she should have stayed and less experience sales people should have been released. The honest truth is that it was based on her medical history. I know that this is the case.

The second person was a black male, who was called at home while he was out on disability and told that his job was eliminated by his manager and H.R. This guy had complained about racial issues to his boss (Nanda Kumar) in 2008. After at least 3 complaints, Nanda told a co-worker that "he had to go." Shortly after this, the guy became sick while returning from a business trip to India and China. This resulted in him being out for over 2 months the last part of 2008. Management and Nanda did not like him being out this excessive amount of time. Consequenlty, Nanda placed the guy in a position that would make it very easy to displace him after the January 2009 RIF and reorganization. The sad part of all of this is that Nanda "once again" bragged to a "friend / co-worker" about" making the right decision to get "rid of John" because he's out sick "once again."

Based on the two incidents above, I don't see how anyone can consider doing business or working for a company like this. Come on, it's 2009 after all.
