My son was looking for his 1st car.  Searched "Cars Direct" and found a vehicle attractively priced.  "Owner" sent email advising that she was Ginger Macdonald, an Army nurse currently depolyed in Iraq and had to sell the car.  She said she hired Ebay motors to handle the transaction and to wait for an email from "eBay motors.  They actually victimized the real Ginger Macdonald who I learned is a true soldier.  These scum have no shame.

Email from "eBay motors" stated to send a Money Gram order to "agent Daniel Greene" of eBay motors at 530 Wells Fargo Drive in Houston TX.

They were salivating at the mouth trying to get my son to send the Money Gram.  The usual numerous emails - no verification stuff, no real telephone numbers or website.

I sent the scam emails to eBay.  I've sent eBay plenty of scam / spoofs but all I think that they do is yawn at the stuff.  I always offer eBay help to assist with investigating and ask them to let me know what the outcome of the spoofs / scams are but never hear back from them.   Sad stuff all the way around.

You and I both know the problems with buying a used car, whether we buy it from a private owner or a dealer.  We both probably agree we can avoid all this by purchasing new.  That would be great if everybody, including you son, could purchase a brand new car.  When purchasing a used car locally, the SMART buyer will have that car checked out by their own mechanic BEFORE they buy it and if the mechanic finds problems and they still want the car, then they tell the dealer they will buy it if and when the dealer fixes it.  The reputable dealer will do that even if the customer doesn't buy it because a reputable dealer doesn't want to be selling junk.

I don't give a d**n what type of commerce takes place on the web.  To send money off to who knows who to buy a used car you CANNOT CHECK OUT IN ADVANCE, is plain stupid!

I'm truly sorry you apparently don't have the business sense to grasp that concept and it will be a cold day in hell before I taught any of my kids that kind of foolishness!

Okay Jim.  I didn't know there were caves in Orlando.  Newsflash... there's a whole world out there that uses something called the internet to make purchases.   Sounds like you're a little mad that someone put an alert out to the rest of the world about this particular scammer.  Did you have to test drive your cave before you bought it?

A "Great" Education For Your Son, Right???

Here's what you said, "Sad stuff all the way around."  How right you are!

Let me see if I understand this incredible story...

You are encouraging your son to buy his first car by sending off his money to who knows who to buy a car he has never seen and doesn't really know exists?

Are you on drugs???

You made ZERO effort to discourage your son from doing such a ridiculous thing!  Did it ever occur to you the COMMON SENSE way to buy a car is to look locally, actually see the car, check out the seller, have the car checked out by a mechanic you pay?

There are TONS of people who are just waiting for the opportunity to scam somebody who doesn't use COMMON SENSE, (if they have any), by using the internet.  You refered to these perpetrators as "scum".  Do you not think you have some protection against them?  Of course you do.  Its called "COMMON SENSE"!  You don't ever, ever send your money off to somebody you don't know to buy an alleged car you've never seen!

Its absolutely incredible the stupid things some people do for an equally stupid car!  ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!
