To Whom it may concern-

On Oct. 29, 2015 I made two phone calls to telephone numbers listed on a Craigslist viewing of a vehicle.  The telephone numbers listed were #(213)416-7878 and #(909)500-9216.  I left voice messages for both telephone numbers.  From my messages, I received an email back from a Sgt. Cindy Braton regarding a 1998 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4x4.  There were six emails back & forth between us on that day.  Sgt. Braton advised that she was in training at Burlington Air National Guard Base and would not be receiving an email from Ebay with instructions for the purchase ot the vehicle.

On Oct. 30 seven more emails between her and I were sent.  During this time I was instructed to purchase Pay Pal Cash Cards from an Ebay transaction order received the same day from Ebay Motors Inc.  On Oct 31, we conversed through three emails regarding the Pay Pal Cash Cards which were difficult to find.  On Nov. 1, I sent Sgt. Braton another email.  On Nov. 1 and 2, I purchased a total of three Pay Pal Cash Cards from Walgreens in Victorville, Ca.  which were loaded with $500.00 dollars each totaling $1500.00 dollars.  During this timeframe, I had three other older friends of mine take a look at the emails and purchase information to make sure that they thought that this process was legitimate.  We all agreed that it seemed to be so.

On Nov. 3, another email from Ebay Motors came through requesting that I purchase more Pay Pal Cash Cards for the total of $1000.00 for shipping insurance.  Sgt. Braton was to pay another $1000.00 for shipping which would equal the amount of $2000.00 for shipping insurance from the both of us.  On the morning of Nov. 5, I sent an email to Ebay Motors and Sgt. Braton requesting to know what was going on with the shipment of the truck.  On Nov. 5, Sgt Braton emailed me explaining frustration about the shipping insurance and requested that I sent it.  On that same day, at 12:20p, I spoke with an agent, Sam, at Pay Pal Cash Cards and verified that the funds were still on the cards.  On Nov. 6, I responded to Sgt. Braton stating that I could not send an more money.  I didn't receive an email back.  On Nov. 9, I emailed Sgt Braton asking her what was going on and to please let me know.  Again, I received no response.  On Nov. 10, I sent an email to both Ebay Motors and Sgt Braton voicing my frustration and requesting a response,  I never heard back from either.

On Nov. 14, in the evening, I again tried to call the number on the back of the Pay Pal Cash Cards to verify that the funds were still on the cards only to get conflicting information from the automated system.  I was getting very worried at this point.  The next morning I calledPay Pal #1-888-721-1161 and spoke with Lorene who advised me that the Pay Pal Cash Cards were a separate company and that I would have to contact #855-721-5035.  I was having difficulty speaking with an agent on this number so I called Pay Pal again and spoke with Victoria.  She toldme again that I would have to call #855-721-5035 and when the automated system requested the 10 digit # to press 0# three times and I would get a phone agent. That did not happen.  Then, I tried one more time and finally got through to Ivan who helped me to start the dispute with Payl Pal Cash Cards (case#667919).

This whole process has been very trying and upsetting.  These people are impersonation Ebay as well as Sgt. Cindy Braton, a sergeant in the Air National Guard and are falsely advertising under Craigslist.  I am a single mother who just received this money from a child support battle and needed to use it to purchase a vehicle so that I may take my 7yr. old back and forth to school and to seek employment.  I cannot believe that his has happened to me and it has completely set me back.  I will never feel comfortable using Craigslist, Ebay, or Pay Pal ever again in my life.  I have printed copies of the Pay Pal Cash Cards which were used, receipts from Walgreens, emails sent back and forth between myself and Sgt. Cindy Braton, myself and Ebay Motors Inc., Payl Pal Mycash Dispute form (case#667919), personal valid government id verification, and copies of notes taken when speaking with Pay Pal Cash Cards agents and Pay Pal agents. Please review my letter and respond back to me as soon as possible.  Thank you for your assistance with this matter, it is greatly appreciated

Your loss could have been avoided had you not failed to observe the well-posted fraud alerts on the craigslist website:

Avoiding Scams

• Deal locally, face-to-face —follow this one rule and avoid 99% of scam attempts.

• Do not extend payment to anyone you have not met in person.

• Beware offers involving shipping - deal with locals you can meet in person.

• Do not rent or purchase sight-unseen—that amazing "deal" may not exist.

Most scams attempts involve one or more of the following:

• Email or text from someone that is not local to your area.

• Western Union, Money Gram, cashier check, money order, paypal, shipping, escrow service, or a "guarantee."

Hi. For starters I am sorry for what happened to you and two do not listen to the first commentor he/she clearly cannot read and passes judgement all too quickly. As for you I must be honest there were so many read flags. First the lady being in the army then the two phone numbers with different area codes that did not pick up for you. I have learned through experience that scammers often A. Do not have one number that is reliable ( they will provide you with so many numbers that you ultimately forget the first one if you don't pay attention they also do not answer and when they do they start a rapid word conversation and get offended by questions),B.

They love love love email... This is so they do not get caught slipping up. When you email someone you can tailor it anyway you want say what you want add as much detail as you want this is what seemed to have happened. Last but not least scammers like to take people through the ringer. Scammers are good at what they do, they will find pictures and names that sound legit but really aren't. Scammers will sell you a story you'd fall for in a minute that is also what happened. The pay cards should have told you that something was amiss and honestly western union got played out so scammers have to switch up. In the future I would recommend that you just not buy a car from anyone online or in person unless they are from a dealership or auction.

In this case you would need to take a mechanic you trust with you and read the fine print. I too am a mom if 3. I got my car from a pay here buy here very nice condition only thing is I have had to put work on the car. Despite this I have not been scammed or anything and I had someone who knew about cars. I paid $2000 down and pay a note. This may not be for you but it may help. You could try Car Max if you ever get more money. They can help. I do not think your friends took the issue seriously as there were too many red flags as I stated. If you can't see the car in person then leave it where it is. Good luck in the future. I hope you get your car

Because your tongue was hanging out for a dumb stupid car, you sent your money off to somebody you don't know to buy this used car you've never seen! Oh yes, it's all somebody else's fault, right? Common sense isn't one of your strong points, is it? "A sucker is born every minute!" ..... P. T. Barnum
