In November, 2012, I requested service from ECM under an existing contract.  The service was to repair a leaking toilet in and apartment covered by an ECM contract.

From the first moment, ECM, put up obstacles to providing service.  They required unnecessary documentation and put up roadblocks to my initiating a service call.

They made an appointment for service - failed to show up - but claimed they called my representative who did not answer in "15 minutes".  When my representative called me to say he was still waiting and ECM didn't call -- I called them -- and they said the repairman had moved on when he didn't receive an answer to his call and I would need to re-schedule.

That's when the fun really begain.

When I tried to re-schedule, I was given a littany of reasons why the plumbing problem would not be covered by ECM.  All of the reasons were ridiculous, irrelevant.  Some of the reasons ECM denied service were:

The apartment was empty

The apartment was under contract to be sold

The leak was detected during an inspection (it was not)

They would not meet my representative who was a realtor because he was a realtor

Then ECM said they would require a leak detection appointment before they would service the leaking toilet.  That leak detection appointment would cost an additional $150.

I live one thousand miles away from the apartment under contract with ECM.

I needed to get the toilet - which is specifically covered by the contract - repaired.

II called a plumber who came immediately and replaced the cracked toilet.  He also replaced the shut-off valve as a precaution against further leaks.ECM then used this replacement as justification for their failure to provide service.

The toilet replacement cost me $450 and ECM refuses to reimburse me for that expense.

We have gone back and forth on the Better Business Bureau Complaint site -- ECM staunchly refuses any responsibility to service this contract and the BBB capitulated to them suggesting I might file complaints with the Attorney General and other government officials.

In my opinion, ECM is a company that consumers should avoid.  My experience with them was so unsatisfactory that I urge all consumers to stay away from them.

Beware.
