My car was stolen about 3 wks ago from my granddaughter's driveway. 3 days ago it was sold to the maintenance man at Carraige House Apartments. The maintenance guy knew the man he bought the car from because he had worked with him several years ago. He believed the man when he said he would deliver the title to him the next day but he needed the money right now because of a medical problem that his wife had. He  gave him the keys and left the complex.

The man went inside the complex office to clock in for work & to ask for a parking permit for the car. He got it and came back out about 10 minutes later to find that VSF Towing had hooked onto the car & was taking it away. He ran after the truck , yelling "I've got the sticker right here! Please dont take my car!" The tow driver saw him but ignored him & left with the car anyway.

Soon after, a police officer showed up to question the man & informed him that he had purchased a stolen vehicle. The officer asked him where the car was & the man told him that it had been towed away by VSF Towing. As it turns out, the tow driver had run the plates on the car to find out who the owner was  and had learned that the car was stolen. Instead of waiting for OPD to show up, or leaving the car there for OPD to find, he went ahead & towed it any way.

OPD notified us that our car had been found & was at VSF Impound yard. We were notified the next day. We called VSF & were informed that it would cost us $350 to get our car back. I explained that it had been stolen. I explained that I did not have $350 to get my stolen car back. The person was very rude & said it wasn't their problem. I would either pay the money or they would auction off my car. They said that what they did was legal. They said they knew the car was stolen because the tow driver was the one who reported it. I told them that they should not have moved the car because it was evidence in an active police investigation. They said they didn't care; that they had a contract with the apt complex & towed cars with no permits. They said my car had no permit, so they towed it. They said the longer I left it there, the more it would cost to get it back & that my being an elderly handicapped person with no money was not their problem.

Several friends helped us out by donating $ 400 total and I went with my granddaughter to get my car back. They would only allow me in the building so my granddaughter waited outside.

I paid the money,  $392, & was told I would need to walk to the back of the large lot and drive my car up to the front. I explained that I was handicapped & couldn't walk that far. I said my granddaughter would go & get it for me. They refused to let her. They said I would have to do it or I would just have to leave my car there. I made it to the back corner of the lot to find that a pile of brush, grass & twigs had been piled against the drivers side door. I tried to move some of it so I could get to the car & couldn't. I stepped on the pile & a piece of wood broke & I fell on the ground, hitting my head and scratching my leg & breaking my face shield.

I lay there & screamed for help for what seemed like a long time. I realised nobody was coming to help me so I kept tryng until I managed to crawl over to the wheel & pull myself up. I made it into the car & drove up  to the front where I got out & I was crying in pain & my grandaughter ran to me & asked what happened. She helped me go inside but they wouldn't let her stay. I told them what happened & they called me a liar, even though they could see that I was dirty & had grass & stuff in my hair & all over my clothes.  The man then told me that I should be thanking him for finding my car & offering him a reward instead of "bi*ching" about having to pay him.

They said they didn't believe that I was hurt , that I was faking it & to take my car & leave. I told him that I was going to sue & he said " Go ahead. I'll be the person you see in the court room & you will lose! Sue! You won't be the first!'' They both laughed at me & told me to get out.
