We bought a Ford Windstar van at Ed Corley in Grants. When it came time to write a check for the $1000 downpayment that we had agreed on, I wrote them a check from a Government Securities Fund from my stock portfolio funds. I have written checks from this account before, and I've never had any problems.

About two weeks later, we start getting phone calls from a collection agency saying that the check we wrote was on an account that didn't exist and we owed Ed Corley Ford $1000. I called my financial broker for the account, and she said that the government checks must PHYSICALLY be sent to the bank to be redeemed. These checks will not clear electronically, which is what Ed Corely had tried to do. Ed Corley Ford never even tried to contact me when the check wouldn't clear, but they immediately sent it on to a collection agency.

So now my very good credit rating is ruined because some idiot in the financial department didn't bother to call me to find out what the problem was, or bother to send the check in to the bank to be redeemed. I have since paid them with another check out of an electronic account, but they need to clear my credit record, which they have not done.
