I took my boat and trailer to Ed's Marine on 10/4/17 for winterization of my boat and annual inspection for my trailer. Upon review of the completed work order, I noticed additional work done on my boat which I did not authorize and which was over and above the specific items listed for their winterization service. I received no courtesey call for this additional service nor was I notifed of the additional expense. I questioned the service tech about this issue and she said I would have to talk to Marc Godbalt about it. When he arrived I asked him why this additional work was done without my authorization. He said that winterization of the water system was part of what they do so that the water would not freeze. I explained that I appreciated that concern but I should have been notified of their intentions and I would have declined that service. I also pointed out that winterization of the water system was not listed as part of their service items listed and posted at the counter explaining what they do for their fee of $400.00. I offered to split the cost with him, but he refused my offer. I then pointed out that the charge for the anti freeze was $18.00 for a gallon of fluid and that the water system only held 10 gallons and that I thought this was very unreasonable. He disagreed and refused to consider any alternatives. I then pointed out that they had called me about the brake lights on my trailer that were not working and i declined this service. Why was I not extended the same courtesy when it came to servicing the water system on my boat? He said he was required by the Va State Inspection board to call me about an inspection issue but not about the additional work on the water system. I explained that I saw no difference between the two items. He disagreed and demanded payment in full. He also further stated that I would now have to pay for this service in cash and would not accept any type of credit card for payment.I left and then returned about an hour later and paid cash for the service so i could get my property away from this place before any nefarious activity could occur.

As soon as i got home with my boat and trailer, I checked my trailer. Nothing wrong with the brake lights, turn signal lights or running lights. Everything was working just fine. They had called earlier in the week and said these lights were not working and the cost for fixing the lights would be $158.00. I declined this service. There was a side marker light and clearance light that was not working, but this is not what they told me. I replaced the two defective lights and the parts only cost $18.00.

So basically my complaint is two fold: A. performing unathorized service on my boat and chaging me for it without my permission. B. Telling me my brake lights were out and needed to be replaced when in fact there was nothing wrong with them at all.
