I contacted Edward N Gus (M1smith) through Strumgewehr.com in a transaction over gun parts and the deal went smoothly. Encouraged over the intial transaction in March 2004 I sent him $275.00 via PayPal for a rare and expensive front sight base (FSB) for a Russian SVD rifle. I felt confident sending him money because the first transaction was for more money than $275.00 and I thought PayPal would protect me if the transaction went bad.

Mr Gus stated he didn't have the FSB but he was going to place a large order to a supplier in Hungary. After a few months I wrote to him and he stated the order hadn't come in from Hungary yet-just wait sometimes it takes longer to import stuff.

Well after 3 months from intial PayPal funds transfer, PayPal will no longer honor any dispute. I didn't know this and Mr Gus strung me along for a year and a half.

The PayPal business information that I sent the Payment to was: mickeysemeraldretreat.com/ (this place is in Florida)

Below are the surviving emails I had with Mr Guss last dated 3/20/05:

Ed,

Please process a refund in the amount of $275.00 to my PayPal account immediately since you have not done
so as per my request on 3/8.

The payments you said you made to this guy keeps changing tarnishing your credibility.
In May it was $1275, then in October it was $2500 - over double and by March it was $2700!
(read all the emails below if you don't believe me)

To make matters worse, I do not have the part I bought from you AND I bought a part FOR YOU that you still owe me $90 for.

I have been very patient and feel bad that you got screwed but that is no reason to in turn screw me.

Give me back my money, I am not waiting any longer. I am canceling my order since you cannot produce the goods, still, a year later.

Please do not force me to pursue this legally, I just want my money back.

Regards,

Bob

Hi Ed-

I've giving you a year to get the SVD flashider. It looks like I'm not going to get it. I think I've been more than patient so please refund my money of $275.00 via PayPal to my address. Also I have a 1200m SVD rear sight I've been sitting on for almost a year. If you want that add another $90.00 and I will send it out to you.

Thank You,
Bob

Yes,I sold this guy a front sight; and yes it took a long time to get them. Sight came from Hungary on an Form 6 Import permit. This guy was aware it was going to take awhile but he told me he was ordering parts from Russia and other stuff like that with no paperwork. I told him that ordering from countries overseas without import documents can get you into real hot water with US Customs. He then was bragging how much stuff he buysfrom Communist Bloc countries and never has a problem. After a while I got tired of his incessant whining over this front sight and sent him my only spare. It was send INSURED Signature required to his home address USPS. A few weeks later he says he didn't get it and wants me to file a claim on the package- I told him I have a copy of the signature card that I requested from the USPS when he said he didn't get the package- He refuses to do a USPS claim or investigation; tries to get a refund through paypal instead- They denied his claim because the receipt showed the package delivered to him.

We did do business several times; and yes the first transaction was for better than $1000.00. IIRC The second was for something like $275.00 like he said. I had filed Form 6 import notices with the ATF to import the parts legally. Unfortunately others (competitors) did not file the forms and were smuggling in parts. So half way through the deal this guy wants out-. I told him that the parts were  in transit and he said he already bought them directly from a guy in Russia who mailed this part and a bunch of stuff to him without custom forms (Several Felonies and ITAR violation). Well he files a complaint with paypal, and the time limit was up but I did provide paypal with a insured mail receipt for the part he had ordered as it had come in a day before. I had told this guy customs forms sometimes take up to a year and if he wanted the part he would have to wait. Sorry he feels cheated he got his parts both times and maybe he should deal with  legally imported parts instead of  illegally smuggled items next time.
