I chose a 215 area code phone number from the three offered by EFAX and then entered my credit card and personal information. On the same screen that said my card was approved, was an announcement of my fax number. However, the number was not the one I had chosen.

I went to a chat screen to complain. Tina's first response was, "Please browse our FAQ's." She then suggested sending in an email inquiry or phoning their 323-817-3205 number. Then she wrote, "If you wish, I can add the number as 12153520416 for you.

Instead of changing the number I suggest that you add a number now. This can be done under a special promotional plan being offered today. As part of a special plan, today you can add a new number to your existing account under the eFax Plus service for only $6.95."She refused to cancel the account.

I contacted customer service, located in India. Getting him to understand what happened took 10 minutes. Getting him to "place a request to" cancel the account took another ten.

The email I received? It says, "Per your request, I have submitted a refund request for $26.95 to our Billing Department, which will review your request and make a decision based on the details of your individual case. If approved, the refund will be issued to the credit card originally charged for the disputed amount, within 30 days."

Bear in mind that the sequence of events I've described took place over about an hour and a half. No faxes were sent or received.
