I called Efficiency Mechanical to repair an AC unit that was not cooling. The repairman came out and in no time told me my freon line was kinked and that the compressor was probably shot. He could replace the fan and motor and warranty that but the compressor would probably go out on the first 100 degree day. I asked for a written estimate and he said the salesman would do that. I agreed to see the salesman. He came out and told me the same information, though neither one of them checked the equipment. They both showed me a kink in the freon line. I thought it was just a curve. The salesman was super friendly and wrote up a quote for 5,000 for the fan and compressor but what he really recommended because of efficiency, rebates, etc. was a whole new system by Carrier for 10,000. I was listening and trying to work myself around to their advise. It took me a day but I realized that they were not interested in diagnosis and repair. They were a relay team to sell me expensive new equipment.

I called a different repair service. They checked out everything and I was back in business immediately. They came back a day later to put a new capacitator on as mine was not putting out enough power. My system works great. My equipment looks like new. It was all new in 1997 and is only used for 1/3 of my house.

I am so steamed about how Efficiency Mechanical handled this. Fraudulent sales practices from a company I have done business with for years. I am reporting to the Better Business Bureau also.
