Complaint Review: Eharmony

I joined eharmony because, quite frankly, my life does not make it easy to meet compatible and available singles. Eharmony claims they have a sophicated system to help you find the right match. They have you take all this time to fill out a detailed profile questionaire as if they use it for some special system. That's free but to communicate with members you have to pay their high fees and hope for the best.

What I got was ripped off. They begin flooding my email with mostly flex- matches and non-members who can't even communicate. They have ignored my preferences regarding geographic location and age. They control every aspect of your experience as if they are trying to make sure they can keep you on as long as possible.

I began hearing that they have a habit of extending your membership without your permission sometimes taking hundreds of dollars out of people's accounts. I have deleted my account information to prevent them from stealing more from me but am worried that kept my credit card information somewhere else.

I have repeated asked for a refund and their response is that I gave them my credit card information volunteerly and that they don't give refunds.

I've begun receiving mail at home from companies that eharmony sold my personal information to--in violation of their supposed privacy policies. I know this because I only used that name on eharmony--something I always do so that I can track down who sells information.

Now I find out that they read your personal email. I finally found one person who I agreed to communite with but who agrees that we are too far away from each other for anything more than pals. We each said we felt ripped off by eharmony. Next thing you know, he received an email saying I decided to close communication with him. I received one saying he decided to close communication with me. Unfortunately for eharmony, we had each other's email address and were able to verify that eharmony closed the match without our permission.

eharmony is a sophicated scam and I strongly discourage people from giving these people any financial information about yourself. If you've been ripped off, report eharmony to the Federal Trade Commission. If they get enough reports, they will investigate eharmony and possibly fine them or shut them down entirely.
