Complaint Review: El Cid Mazatlan

July 2008, we traveled to Matazlan and was offered the usual timeshare sell.  We bought because the sales agent (Bob) offered us - through him exclusively- to rent our unit ( points) to him and he would in-turn rent them out during big sporting events and we would recover our investment within a few years.  We did NOT receive any material or see any examples of timeshare points, rates, etc.  We blindly trusted this guy which was absolutely stupid.  When we signed they offered to ship our "books" to us to not burden down our suitcases.  A trick so you don't go home and see the real rip-off value that night.  As soon as we returned home (but it was after the 5 day recourse time) we tried to cancel and could not. 

We had purchased these points through our own credit card for $19,500.  In January 2010, we found out that our membership had been cancelled back in May 2009.  They had not even notified us. When contacted they said it was due to non payment (of monthly dues I guess- because they had our full payment).  We were not sent monthly due bills after the first 2 months because we were contesting this membership. 

So now, we do not have anything for our $19,500.  The credit card company refuses to reimburse our charges - even though it was clearly a fraudulent deal.  El Cid refuses to work with us on any type of refund.

DO NOT GO TO EL CID.  We have heard of so many of the same type of stories.  Just stay away from all TimeShare salesman and enjoy your vacation.  We have no desire to EVER go to Mexico again - and it used to be our favorite vacation spot.
