I noticed a temporary authorization by El Dorado Sales on my online credit card statement. Since I never heard of El Dorado, I did some checking. I found their phone number on the 'Net, called and talked to a rep named Jason. He was very helpful and provided me with enough information to convince me that my credit card number had been stolen and used to sign up for El Dorado's EasyNews.com service. He gave me the IP address used to sign up (202.143.62.8) which resolves to an Indonesian ISP. The email address at uid.co.uk seems to be hosted at a Washington (the state) datacenter. Jason cancelled the easynews.com account and arranged for a credit of the sign up fee. Since the number was stolen, I have cancelled the credit card and I advise anyone else whose had bad fraudulent charges through El Dorado to do the same. Apparently, easynews.com is a favorite testing ground for crooks who steal credit card numbers. Now, if I can just figure out how they got the number in the first place...
