Complaint Review: Elaine Geniti-reynolds

 Kinda crazy. Chic answers a personal ad on Craigslist. We talk. Couple of days later she invites me to dinner. On first contact she comes to me kisses me o the mouth. A little forward but didn't set any alarms off. The other couple where there for two reasons. She was getting her hair dyed, he was assessing the work that could be done to make her newly purchase house semi presentable. Three things here. 1.The guy has absolutely no trades history. 22. He's a barely functioning alcoholic. 3. In my CL post I had described myself as a carpenter. She asked if I would take a look and give my opinion. House was built in 1890 or so. Terrible condition though the exterior was in pretty decent condition given its decades of neglect. Instead of ugly and expensive vinyl siding I suggested scrape, patch, sand, prime and paint. Would need to replace at least 30 mineral fiber shingles but it would look near new when done for a fraction of new siding. I gave the caveat that having only looked at what I could access from ground level, I couldn't be sure there was anything deeper that might turn into a problem. She asked me if I could do the work and use her friend as a helper. I said I could and that I would charge her $175 day, well under what I would a typical customer. I stayed the night, and the next night. Gave me a key to the house, encouraging me to bring clothing and stuff. Talked about getting a dresser for me. Yeah, git a little creepy real fast. I planned to start Tuesday. Found a good deal on a five gallon bucket of paint, she like the color, I bought it for her $50. Put in a half day with her friend, he was near useless. Paid him $40. Next day her son 16 year old son was there. He did pretty good. Though I swore I heard him call me "dad" at one point. It was pretty clear but I put it off to acoustics and ignored it. She asked me if I could pick up a dryer that she found on CL from a nearby seller. I did, paid $50. Full day Thursday. She got home from work early and went to get a few things on a 10 item list. Important were the shingles. These shingles are not common, you generally can't go to a store and pick some up. I had located them at a roofing and siding supplier at $300 a square. I told her this and because if the price she researched and surprisingly found them at home depot. Same price but she can get a 20% military discount. So off she goes only to call me two hours later, explaining that HD doesn't have them on the shelf. No surprise there. I call the other place to find they close in 10 minutes. I gave her the address as was given to me. I'm new to the area so I didn't know where it was. At this point she kind of flips out and hangs up on me before she heard me tell her the city it's located in. Her text to me is pretty clear this girl is a little unstable. Something about she's pissed because I sent her on a goose chase with no specifics and she's not a contractor and doesn't know anything. . I specifically said, 5 gallons of exterior primer, 36 grit 4x24 sanding belts, gave her a used one to take, and a ten pack of 36 grit Sandpaper. So with no shingles work will pretty much stop. I texted her that I would stop by the supply yard in the morning and pick up the shingles but she would have to come current on the money i had put out on materials, labor, dryer, and my own time. Total came to $540 less $100 she had spent on a store purchase for me the night before. Here's the text response. : Please pick up your tools and check tomorrow after 6 pm. Do not come in my house. Leave my key under the mat. I owe you 323.70. Here is the break down. 50.00 dryer,87.50 X 3, 40.00 Bill, 71.72 materials. Minus 100.00 router. Equals 323.70 You are FIRED. I said I would turn around and get my tools right then and she started spouting off about cops and to jot come on her property or I'd be arrested.... And a whole bunch of other happy horseshit. Speaking of which, she supposedly has a dressage horse. Maybe, but it was a rescue animal that she scammed the people that sold it to her. Set up a fake non profit to do it. She's not too bright but she does have balls. That report I'd on here also. Either way, stay clear of this woman. So end result is I got my tools that night without her knowledge. Had a witness with video in tow. I told her, she didn't have to go through all that elaborate bull****. I would and have donated the time and money to someone in need. I just couldn't go in for another $300 on shingles. My charity has limits. Oh and the stories about her super rich parents with mansions and yachts was pretty amusing. The girl might actually be insane.
