Blinded by the excitement of having a new gaming console and desperate to be able to switch my TV into game mode, I did everything wrong.  I Googled "Sylvania doesn't work with universal remote" instead of "Sylvania replacement remote" or just going to the Sylvania website.  I found ElectronicAdventures.com in a posting on a forum and bought a remote without comparing prices or searching for company reviews.

They sent a cheap generic remote instead of the original $30 remote I'd ordered, saying it was out of stock.  They did not ask if the switch would be okay or notify me at all.  Also, the remote did not work.  Fortunately, they refunded the cost plus shipping, though, under the circumstances, I also complained about the return shipping cost which they did not refund.  When I did Google the company, I found several similar complaints that I should have seen earlier.  I ended up buying a replacement remote from Sylvania's customer service for almost $20 less than the cost of ElectronicAdventures' generic remote.
