I have had a continuous problem with the motherboard in a T1140 model. The computer is less than six months old. Also, I have an extended warranty (2 yrs) purchased at the same time from Best Buy store in Tucson, AZ.

The computer would not boot. I opened the panel and discovered there was no power to the motherboard. Everything else checkout ok including the power supply. I took the machine into Best Buy and made a horrific discovery.

Although any competent tech can replace the motherboard in less than thirty minutes Emachines does not permit this to be done by other than their company people. As a result, to satisfy the Emachine Corporation my computer has to be shipped to their facility in California for evaluation and repair. The turnaround time averages an incredible three weeks!! I will be without the use of the computer for perhaps a month or longer.

All potential Emachine buyers should be warned about the exclusivity feature inherent in their warranty, and those extended by retailers. If anything goes wrong with the machine, even something as minor as a loose internal wire, the box will have to be shipped to California for Emachines's evaluation and repair. If you don't have a backup computer be prepared to rent or buy another.
