I purchased an Emachine in 1999. It was advertized as being totally free after rebates. There was a $400 instant rebate for signing up with a particular internet service provider. That one is the only rebate I actually got. There were rebates for the monitor, tower, and printer that equalled the entire amount to be paid, except for taxes.

Too good to be true, YES! After the rebates were sent off as they were supposed to be, we waited and waited. Finally we contacted them and they said they had never received them. We were told to return to the store where the computer was purchased to get more rebate coupons and resend them. We did, of course, and still received nothing.

It has been three years. None of us will ever get the money back unless there is a class action suit, which I would GLADLY be a part of.

I would think there was something that could be done about the stores that advertise these rebates. They should be required to pay if the manufacturer won't. If the store were held responsible for what they advertise, they would not do business with a fraudulent company like emachines.

By the way, I have had to replace my hard drive and after researching the problems with emachines, I know that my power supply and/or fan could go out at any minute.
I have problems with it quite often. I had once set up separate desktops for my children and then later deleted them as users because the computer started acting up. Even though there are no users listed in the menu, every time I restart my computer, I have to log one of them off! Just yesterday, the sound chip stopped working.

I WOULD NEVER BUY ANOTHER EMACHINE FREE OR NOT!!!
In summary the rebates are worthless, and I'm really starting to think the computers may be also.
