I let my phone service be disconnected last month. I called this month to pay. Not only do they charge a reconnection fee (which is expected). They charge the entire monthly bill while being disconnected. "This is their policy."

Thank you for contacting EMBARQ.
Once again, I apologize for the difficulties and frustration you are currently experiencing. Unfortunately, this is EMBARQs policy and you will be charged for these services until they are restored or canceled. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to email us again at www.EMBARQ.com.

Thank you for your continued support.

That's a great side step of the issue.? The point being I am being charged for services that I don't have access to.

I'm contacting Cox to see if they have the same type of charges.

Thank you for contacting EMBARQ.
I apologize for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, EMBARQ does not stop billing you for their services unless your account has been closed. Since your services are only suspended and not canceled, you are still being billed the same amount.

Once again, I apologize for the inconvenience.

Thank you for contacting EMBARQ.
I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. After reviewing your

account, I see that your basic charges before surcharges is about $62.00 per
month as you are paying $35.90 for Basic Home Phone service, $15.00 for
Unlimited long distance and about $12.00 for taxes.

The cause of your overages is coming from your reconnect charges every month.
Every time your services are disconnected and restored, your are charged $51.00.

This is what is increasing your monthly charges.

You also have a past due balance of $254.51 due to unpaid charges. Please make a

payment of $254.51 as soon as possible to restore services.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to email us again at
www.EMBARQ.com.

Thank you for your continued support.

I would like a break down of all of those "charges."

My service should only be @ $ 60.00 per month.

These were the email corresponding with them. It doesn't seem legal to charge for services that aren't rendered!

Embarq charges you until you cancel. Having it turned off every month is not cancelling. They are rendering a service to you, they keep your phone number. Seriously, does it make sense to pay 51.00 bucks extra every month?? Get rid of the phone you cant afford it obviously. In Las Vegas keeping your number is crucial b/c once you relinquish it, it'll be gone. Also, an FYI about any cable company. They are not regulated by the PUC for phone service, meaning that if you do the same thing with them (deadbeat customer) you will be charged more to restore. I woulnt complain, about EQ, they should drop you as a customer like the cable companies will. Also, the puc approves all charges at companies like EQ. They would charge more if they could. My recommendation: get rid of the phone, dont worry about the charges, just pay them, the government approves the charges so you wont get any money back, and beware of cable, they end up being more expensive.
