If you get a phone from Embarq paying for their salaries and sending their kids to college, they repay you by selling your information.

Not long after getting a phone I have a bill collector calling every singe day 5 days a week and they won't stop.

In addition they give out your physical address. I have lived here for 5 years and never got a single piece of mail. Now I am getting all sorts of junk mail.

I talked to a supervisor and she claims it was my fault for not getting an unlisted number. I think they have the entire concept upside down.

I look upon that as black mail. In other words they are going to publish private confidential information about you unless you pay them a bribe! You can work around this extortion by listing yourself under your dog's name. i.e. D. Sierra.

If at all possible do not give these people your business. Telecommunications companies need to learn that we the people that pay their salaries will not stand for being extorted for them not to publish our private information.

As an embarq employee, I can tell you that we absolutely do not sell any of your information. This is completely illegal, until you call in, or have given us permission, your account cannot even be accessed. This is a ridiculous complaint. Of course if your number isn't non published then telemarketers are going to get your name, number, and ADDRESS out of the phone book and directories and contact you. We are REGULATED to charge you if you chose to have your number unlisted...it's a requirment, we are not allowed to offer that as a free service. You are however entitled to ask that your address not be published, at no additional fee.
