I had opened an account with Providian Finacial over four years ago, the balance was less than $900.00. They sent a letter asking if I would like to have the accout canceled or sold to another company, I said canceled, then about four months later I get a letter from emerge saying they own the account, it has not been canceled and the interest rate hase jumped from 14% to 29.99% and it has been hell every since.

I refused to pay them with the interest they had added on, I even made offers to pay the original providian balance in full but they say no, so every month I get a new bill with new charges, an over the limit fee, a late fee, an interest fee and a regular monthly fee. This place is the biggest scam I've ever seen and I don't know who to contact to get this resolved correctly.

I have contacted a lawyer so now I am trying to get people who are willing to file a class action lawsuite against this company. When you don't pay a credit card for over a year, it should be canceled and sent to collections, not kept open so they can just keep adding interest.

I once had a credit card with Providian which was paid in full. I received a call from Emerge one evening and they stated that I owed them $ 203. I refused to pay because I had no balance and did not use the card once it reached a zero balance (I actually cut up the card).

Emerge decided to report on my credit "Bad Debt Write Off" I kept calling them regarding this entry and they would never assist me. I disbuted with all three credit reporting agencies and each time they said thatthey verified that the information Emerge reported was accurate. (How can it be accurate when I never charged anything?)

Well, Emerge decided to sell my account to a company called Jefferson who also reported me as a collection at $ 203.00 Now do I not only have one incorrect reported account but now I have two. I called Jefferson and they stated that I owed the amount. I was so fed up and becuase of the negative information on my credit report, I decided to pay the $ 203 just to get rid of this.

Well, Jefferson reported to the credit agencies paid, but Emerge still shows a "Charge Off". I contacted Emerge and they said if I wanted to cleared off of my credit report I would have to pay the also $ 203.00

How can this be legal?

I too am being harrassed on a daily basis by the Emerge people. They say that they do send me a statement every month. It's hard to grasp their claim that the post office is not mailing the statements to me. When asked for a new statement, they say that would cost me 5$s.
Moreover, according to them, mailing statements is only on a courtesy basis and that it's not MANDATORY for them to send statements each month. SO>>>> THEY ARE LYING AS THEY ALWAYS DO.
I'm ready to join poeple who are facing similar problems/threats from EMERGE.

I had a getsmart card that was also sold to this company. I had a balance of $500 but after this company received it, the balance was $1104. I paid $500 but I refuse to pay the rest for an account that was sold as closed. The number to reach them is 1-866-705-3603 but don't bother pressing 1 for English because someone always answer that speaks a foreign language to me. I would also like to join in with the class action lawsuit if possible.
