Complaint Review: Empire Carpet

Empire Carpet Bullying Sales Tactics - Will rip you off if you allow it. . . Lakewood, Ohio

Salesman came out to give a quote for $1700 for commercial carpet, which he said he dropped from $2,400 since I could pay cash and it could be done soon.  When we wanted to think about it he got irritated and said he wouldn't have wasted his time had he know we weren't going to sign right away since he had another appointment (he mentioned that it is inconvenient for him to have to come back out).  He finally just stormed out and gave us a "final" price of around $1,400!  I understand that this is a business, but he would have overcharged us $1000 if we would have took his first offer.  People should be aware that these salesman obviously work on commission and customers are really just numbers to them.  I will never work with Empire Carpet and will notify neighbors and friends not to waste their time getting a quote.

I have real concerns over Empires sales tactics. First of all, was the salesman an employee of Empire or a contractor? Did Empire have a criminal background check and drug test done on their 'salespeople' before allowing them into peoples homes? I doubt it.

Secondly, it sounds like your salesman had a real mental problem. Would he have turned violent? I have to doubt he even interviewed in person at Empire, maybe just a quick telephone conversation.

I have the same concern about their installers. I've seen stories of these people being in homes with mothers and children. What if their backgrounds weren't checked ???? Can Empire GUARANTEE that ex-cons weren't being used as installers or salespeople??? Real tough to do when your workforce is contractor based.

It's time to start demanding proof up front, in writing.  Don't risk yours or your familys safety.

Be very careful about any sales person, with a national company, who will cut $1000 off if you hand him cash.

You should contact Corporate Empire Carpet and tell them about this. This is the salesman trying to rip you off.
