I recently received an email from Yelp letting me know I had a new review.  I looked & I had a 5 star review, so okay- now I should have 24 positive reviews, 2 negative & about 11 not recommened (all 5 stars) showing.  I Google my store to find the Yelp page (Google shows I had 23, so #24 is not yet been brwsed which is normal.)  I click on the Yelp Page and it shows I have 19 reviews showing, 5 reviews have been moved to not recommended.  I go to Google News and search for anything in the news about Yelp Inc.  I find that 7-10 before they had a dismall earnings report due to advertisers leaving in droves, and most of tis loss from their local-advertising business.  I start checking my Yelp page weekly now and I now have 22 not recommended reviews (all 5 stars) 2 negatives that won't go away and only 13 revews showing & now I've dropped from 4.5 stars to 4 stars, which is a disater right at Christmas season for any retail operation.  I called Yelp and all I heard was "algorythm".  Yelp needs to stop filtering legitimate 5 star reviews & allowing bogus negative reveiws to remain (and in my opinnion do so to try get businesses advertising on Yelp to try to recover.)  I have been in business 4.5 years now, I have never seen such an aggressive algorythm as the one they've reveded-up since their last earnings report.  Seems to me not filtering reviews unless they were made by people who have'nt even visited the business physically would be the way to run things.
