Empire Moving, Diamond Van Lines ripoff deflated quote unrealistic Pembroke Pines Florida
On 2/25/05 mover showed up 45 minutes late for a condo move out. Time is very critical in a condo move.
45 boxes were already packed and waiting. rest of move consisted of listed pieces of furniture, works of art. and 10 more boxes of misc. I supplied all the boxes and some bubble wrap and the tape.
Driver insisted on a personal check made out to him for $1800 in addition to the $855 cashiers check the company had asked for. This was to insure special handling by him and he would personally drive to CT. I had already taken out $2400 worth of extra insurance for the breakables.
Delivery was to be March 4 or March 8 or 9. The truck didn't leave Fl. until Mar.2 and I was called from the road that they must deliver March 6. I was supposed to be in PA that day but cancelled those plans.
On March 6 at 2:30 pm i get a call from the driver's asst. that they are lost. I told them to wait and I would come to get them. When they arrived at the house they wouldn't unload until I gave them $1722 in cash. When I came out to the truck which said Mayflower, I was $22.00 short and the driver wouldn't let them unload unti I went back to get the $22. He was not the mover who said he was going to personally drive.
It took them until 6:30pm to unload. Then they put four items on the truck to deliver to my daughter In PA., forgetting a chest of drawers. When they got to her house Wed. night the van doors were frozen. my son-in-law had to use a blow torch to get the doors unlocked. They broke a lazy boy recling chair clear off its base.
The move which was quoted at $1657.00 including the extra stop, cost me $4377, plus $200 in tips and $2400 in insurance which doesn't cover the broken chair.

After purchasing an exhorbitant amount of insurance to cover an extensive art and crystal collection, the insurance company reniged on two items. Apiece of glass covering a framed picure for $38.00 and a smashed piece of Steuben for $2400 both of which were listed. It is incredible that these people can collect premiums and never have to pay out. I know because I filed the claim my self

Cornelia, are you sure that your claim has even gotten TO the insurance comapny? A lot of times the movers say the have turned in your claim forms, but haven't, and then the deadline for filing passes and nothing can be done.

After promising to help me to get back some of the overcharges, Empire has not contacted me for 2 weeks and has been dragging its feet for the insurance company on the 3 damaged/missing items.
