I worked as the Grooming Salon Manager For PetCo. I have Been A groomer for close to 17 years. My job duties were as follows I was to train and correct all personel in the salon, This meant that I had to watch all the animals groomed. and Check for the best groom to go out the door.

I am no longer with that company and I would advise any one thinging of working for them to watch closely how they treat the people who work for them.

You have Regional Managers, District Managers, Store Managers, ect I had a Store Manager for the first 4 months who used terms I consider to be harrassing in nature. He had Hire a Friend of His to work in the Salon. Who's Husband worked accross the street. Any time I would say something to this person the boss would chew on me for it. Her husband was in my face so to say all the time or more frankly a pain in my lower back side.

I did address this with my Boss. Oh don't be such a -----. Was the answer to that. THey then Turned around and Hirer this husband to work in the store(another department) this caused even more problems. So now he is in the salon and in my face and followly me around the store.

New Store Manager comes in and Oh he's so wonderful and I address the intimadation I feel by this person and the harrassment I feel. Gee her response is this He will stand anywhere he wants and he can say anything he wants. And I had better change my body language. They then proceed to continue the harrassment and I end up on Anti Depression So I can go to work. I quit. Only because I felt pressured and harrassed into it.

This si Connie I wrote this report. I wanted to give a quick update. Most the employees are now gone from that PetCo. Most were either firer or left before The new Manager got them. The two people who gave me the most grief both went out on Back injuries. Which the company is fighting. Faith Good to see you in Washington now. Kristina thanks for your support. Moving on was right and I do only look back to see what has happen to the store now.Dear Robin well she did not last as Manager. No surprise.

Connie, look on the brighter side -- I think you did the right thing in moving on.

Inresponce to the above:
Connie it appears you cared very much about your position as manager at PetCo or you wouldn't have let it eat you up so bad. From being a fellow manager myself, we managers know the hardest part is dealing with the employees. Even an owner will admit this. I think you did the right thing in moving on. In time you will forget all about what happened and you will probly run into another Robyn or whoever somewhere else in time. Look at it as a lesson learned.

As for Robyn's responce:
I can only say to you Robyn, You weren't there! You don't know what happened and it's none of your business. Being a new manager you shouldn't have let anyone continue to talk about it. That is very unprofessional as a new manager. You just started, give it time, you too may face the same problems and only then understand. Don't be so quick to judge people!!

Management needs to train better grooming managers.

In the time that I worked under Robin at the Palmdale Petco, animals were being treated very poorly, she was rarely working in her department and on many occasions was rude to customers. Several employees talked to management several times with no action ever taken.

I took steps to talk to higher level management with no results.

If the Coporate management would make a commitment to traing both their employees and managers better as well as having an enforced standard for all shops.

I've notcied that each groom manager tends to do bussiness the way they see fit instead of following the set procedures. In most cases, I found Petco to be a reasonable employer. I believe they just do not screen their employees well enough.

You Do not have all the facts

I for one asked to have you as a groomer and was told no way no how would you be allowed to work in the store. You only got the job because I left. And you do not have all the facts. You have my number if you care to learn all the ture facts.
I had been off anti depessiants for 5 years and my havingto go back on them was totally a lack of support at the store and I was told that the person I had a problem with could harrass me and insult me and so on.
I did go to management with these problems. Yes the management can be good but they did not see the problem until I left. SO that is why you have support where I did not.

I am presently the groom manager for the accused Petco. I can't personally testify for what went on in the store prior to my arrival but since I have been there it has been a great experience.

I was brought in as a relief groomer because the management left abruptly. The second day I was asked to manage the shop by the new manager. This was the best decision I have ever made. I will admit to struggling at first: my staff all left at Christmas and soon after. I was running the shop alone which is very tiring. During this time, my manager was VERY supportive and would bring in associates from the store to help me out. She would let me close the shop for a few days to recoop and get it together even if it ment losing business.

As for the previous manager hiring his friend in the shop; he hired his friend as a stocker and the friends wife in the groom shop as a bather. If there was a problem with this "friend" being in the grooming area, you should have told him to leave. That was your job as the manager. This guy is still under me in management levels: it is my shop and if anyone who works there besides the general manager is bothering me they need to leave and get to work.

As for you going onto anti-depressants, from what I hear you were on them prior to Petco. There is no harm in being on medications but please do not blame others for your issues.

As for the Palmdale store; I feel so lucky I've gotten a chance to work under the new manager, Karen. She makes every day fun but productive. She is supportive, helpful, wacky, but down to business when it is necessary. The assistant managers are also fun to be with and we all are trying to make that store better than ever.

There is always going to be some conflict in business among co-workers but it has been at a minimum since I have worked there.

As for starting this in the first place, if you are going to go public like this, try to check your spelling before you submit your complaints: it will seem more professional that way.
