This company first contacted me 6/25/03, and a Mrs. Smith left a message on my answering machine. She stated she was giving me 24 hrs. to handle this "matter". What matter?

On 6/26/03, Encore called again, leaving a message which said this "matter" must be taken care of today. What matter?

I called them and their representative asked for my social security #, which I refused to give. When I refused and asked what matter we were discussing, I was told they could give me no information until I gave them my social security #. Again I refused and the man started screaming at me that they would have to tell their representative that I was being rude and uncooperative. I hung up the phone and reported them to the local sheriff.

The second call came from a man named Mike who asked what was up with the sheriff calling them. He again refused to tell me what this was about, and again I hung up the phone.

Mike called back three times. The first message said "OK". Second message said "Hello, hello, hello". The third said he was just trying to help (yeah, right) and he could not help me if I would not talk to him.

Our county sheriff DID call them. He was told that they were hired by credit agencies to find people who were eluding their creditors. We have lived at the same place for 12 years. I don't think I'm lost.
