Before reading this, understand I was desperate for a job at the time. College loans were going to start kicking in (and being a private college it was expensive) and I still had everyday expenses of rent, food, and gas (which we have all come to dread).
I attended college and received my degree in business and marketing. I just graduated and wanted to get out into the work world. So I searched the Star Tribune, Craig's List, Career Builder, Job Dig, and Monster.com. I came across this entry level position as a "Junior Marketing Executive" for Endeavor Advertising Group, Inc. I thought, "Great!" because marketing absolutely fascinates me. I sent them my resume to "Kat" at careers@endeavoradvertisinggroupinc.com. Then I did a little research on them. I went to their website. First off, I also have a background in web and graphic design and I could blatantly tell their website was generically produced by a design firm. The stock imagery and vague text gave that away. However, again I was hard up for cash.
The next morning I receive an email from them saying, "Thank you for your interest in a position with us! After reviewing your qualifications, past experiences and skills, and comparing your resume to others received, weve come to an agreement that wed enjoy sitting down with you for a more personal interview." I am sure every single one of you reading this got this exact email word for word. So again I thought, "Great!"
I got there at 12:15 and I went to "Kat" at the desk and said I was here for my 12:15 interview and she handed me a paper to fill out which was weird because I have never had to fill paper out before an interview. I sat in the chair and wondered why they didn't have framed examples of the advertising they had done to clients. The walls had bad paintings that you'd find in hotel lobbies and mirrors on them.
Then they had the top forty radio channel blasting. As though I want to listen to the latest hip hop wonder say "Touch my body, Throw me on the floor. Touch my body, Throw me on the bed." Over and over again.
Ten minutes later fast talking, over eccentric "Kelly" (I guarantee you his name is not Kelly and why does Kelly not have a last name? what professional doesn't have a last name so that you can say Mr. or Ms. when talking to them?) came out in a suit and tie and asked me to come in his office. As others have said the office was naked and had another hotel painting hanging on the bare wall. He gave me the run down of how there are 25 other interviews today and is only going to choose 5. He would let me know between 5:00-5:30 that night. He also threw around very generic, vague marketing terms. I asked him what my everyday tasks would be and I didn't get an answer. He talked to me for 4 minutes about the company and didn't ask me any questions. Again, I cannot stress this enough... I needed a job so bad.
Kelly called me that night and said I had a second interview. I was so happy because I could really use the $30,000-$40,000 salary. So I put all my doubts aside and went in for job interview number 2. When I got there they had me fill out another paper with the same exact information on it. Could they not keep my first one? Again, bad music, bad atmosphere, and they were having some pep rally in the office room. After I handed my paper in 5 other people showed up and did the same thing. Which I found odd because they were suppose to be interview the other 4 who were picked the day before. So who were these people and what were they applying for?
Then me and some guy with a mullet and no teeth (if you are reading this you know who you are) were assigned to "Danielle". We were suppose to shadow her from 9:00am-6:30pm. Fine. I've worked longer. We get in her car and she starts talking. "So... like what do you guys like do for fun?" Because if I were shadowing someone "like" that would "like" be my first question. Then mullet man spoke up and he was instantly annoying. I realized I was the smartest person in this vehicle right now. Then Amber joined us and she hops in the car and says to mullet man, "Mmm you smell good today." For a lack of better words, "What the hell?!" So then Danielle pulls out these coupons and says we are going to go around all day today and pitch these to business. Why did I not run from the car? I don't know. The contagious stupidity overcame me?
Lets talk about their professionalism. They made fun of the consumers. They wouldn't even get out of the businesses door before saying things about them. I literally said, "You guys should be nice." And they turned and glared at me and said, "Why?" They would walk into businesses back doors and employee entrances in order to sell a coupon. If a door blatantly said "No Soliciting" they would ignore it. Mullet man started yelling at a mentally disabled man to make Amber and Danielle giggle because, and I quote, "I'm a ladies man." Not to mention they were all swearing and mullet man was hacking loogies everywhere. What kind of interview is this? Considering I had interviewed with ESPN in Bristol, CT a month before this was dumbfounding. This would be dumb founding for any business.
Also, in order to sell the coupons they lied to people about the deals and what not. After harassing over 200 people we sold 8 tickets! Between Danielle and Amber they got $40 each. Not to mention they still have to pay for gas. So from 7:15am-7:00 at night they made $40 dollars. That is $3.40 an hour. The other group that day sold none. None. I filled the questionaire out at the end of the day and wrote: "Why should I work for you?"
They still wanted me to work for them! I said no obviously and got out of there as fast as I possibly could. Awful, Awful, Awful scheme.
No business where you can become a manager in 5 months and make $100,000 is legit.
I know dozens of more people are going to fall for this, but if we can keep it the top Google search for Endeavor Advertising Group, Inc. it may help some. Also, a little fact about Google... they base there searches off of how many times the word(s) you searched for shows up in the document. So for the sake of google I am going to say their name a few times. So please don't mind. Endeavor Advertising Group, Inc. Endeavor Advertising Group, Inc. Endeavor Advertising Group, Inc. Endeavor Advertising Group, Inc. Endeavor Advertising Group, Inc. Endeavor Advertising Group, Inc. Endeavor Advertising Group, Inc. Endeavor Advertising Group, Inc. There we go. I feel for all of you fellow people, but don't feel stupid for falling for this. With the economy the way it is we are all looking for extra jobs. Just keep searching and take this as an experience.

I dont know if the person who wrote this report will receive this but here goes...

I was too emailed and contacted by this "employer". I am moving to the twin cities area in 2 weeks and am seeking a job there, preferrably in advertising. I just randomly typed their name in google and came across this article.

I am sooooooooooooooooo glad I found it!!! The last thing I need after a big move is to get a scam job like this!! I got the EXACT same email described in this report along with a very vague explanation. In fact, when I asked "KAT" (same person you mentioned) about the job description, she only told me which jobs were available and never mentioned a full description. I also made sure to ask if it involved "sales" with commission and she said they didnt. I told her I would not be available for an interview until I move, which she said would not be a problem, just to call her when I arrive in the TC.

Also, another fishy thing I noticed was that when I went back onto Monster/Careerbuilder and searched their name, they had written, no experience necessary, no college exp, I dont think they even required a high school GED???

So anyways, thanks again for this advice!! It could have drastically changed the course of my life (at least for awhile!)

Heather
