Energy Plus is a new partner of Hilton Honors, and they're marketing their electricity program directly to Hilton Honors customers in New York state.  Apparently Hilton Honors gave Energy Plus my info, and Hilton Honors lists Energy Plus as a new partner on their website.  Since I consider Hilton to be a reputable organization, I expect them to do some level of due diligence on any other organization with whom they chose to affiliate and share my info.  Clearly, that does not happen.  In exchange for switching the supply of my electric from NYSEG to Energy Plus, I received 10,000 Hilton Honors points.  For those not familiar with Hilton Honors points, 10,000 points won't even get you a room for one night at any Hilton brand hotel. My first monthly bill including supply from Energy Plus was $222.65, which was bit high, but it's summer and the air conditioning has been running.  The second monthly bill was $780.77.  It seems my pricing went from .045 per kwh at NYSEG to .16875 per kwh at Energy Plus.  That's a 375% price increase.  So I had a lovely chat with multiple people at Energy Plus, including Sean at x7997 and his supervisor Mike, who explained to me that Energy Plus never claimed it would be less expensive, and it was really my own fault for not understanding that the price might go up 375% over NYSEG's.  Also had a lovely chat with Hilton Honors, where I've been a longtime client.  I explained to Hilton Honors it's my expectation that they would only affiliate with reputable companies, and would not share my information or affiliate with companies that might intend to charge me 375% more than I was previously paying.  So it seems I'm out around $500+ in overcharges in two months, and Energy Plus and Hilton Honors have lost my business forever.  Hope this note will prevent you from making the same mistake.
