I switched to Energy Plus Hioldings for the Hilton Honors points offered for signing up and staying an electric customer for three months.  The first month price per kWh was less than the local utility's (ComEd), as advertised, but still more than many other suppliers'.  At month two, the rate almost doubled.  I called their customer service group and the best they could offer was a fixed rate rate plan substantially higher than other suppliers'. Net result: after three months I'd paid $88 in higher electric costs for 15,000 Hilton Honors points. Way more than I expected, though not outrageous.  BUT... if I'd not checked the kWh rate each month, I'd still be with them and be paying exorbitantly for hotel reward points.  BOTTOM LINE: Beware sign up bonuses- they have to be paid for somehow.  Check your kWh (kilowatt hour) rate EVERY month.  Compare with the initial rate or last month's rate or, better yet, with the rates from your state's citizens' utility board (Illinois has CUB) or equivalent.  If you're being taken, tell the utility, as I did, and change suppliers if they can't offer what you consider a reasonable rate.
