I was looking for a job on craigslist and saw their ad. They responded back with an acceptance for a babysitting job. A check was sent to me in advance for fees. An additional amount was added on for me to wire back to their agent and pay for traveling expenses. They wanted me to western union the amount to them. The name they used was Jessica Jackson. i took the check to a few banks and check cashing companies who reported the check a scam.

Why would someone overpay you for babysitting services? That makes no sense so you know it has to be a scam. Trash the check or you will end up negative in your bank account and owe the full amount of the check plus fees to the bank. Thank goodness the others recognized you were getting scammed.
If it sounds too good to be true, it is too good to be true. Don't risk it. BTW, it doesn't matter what the names are on the check, its the fact that they tried to get you to deposit a check larger than the amount due for services that raises the red flag. I'm sure they wanted you to send the funds to their agent via western union or money gram or some untraceable method like a reloadable green dot card. That is another red flag. Why would you take on a debt to send a stranger free money? That's what these scams are - you end up in debt and a stranger ends up with the money. Not a good deal.
